marseille aiport to aix - how straigtforward? |
|
Hi My husband and i are spending some time in provence in August and my mother is coming out to join us for a few days. She is flying to Marseille airport (the low cost MP2 terminal) and will be meeting us in Aix-en-provence. Can you tell me if it will be straighforward for her to travel alone from the airport to Aix on the bus? i.e. is the bus terminal easy to find etc?? She doesn't speak french and although not old isn't a spring chicken! thanks |
|
MP2 the low cost terminal is quite a walk from the main terminal especially with luggage and if it is warm weather. The bus stop is next to the main terminal which is very busy outside and you do have to worm through the crowds. At least we did in June in early evening. The signs as you exit MP2 say 3 mins walk but it took us much longer.Once on the bus your mum will be OK but I would recommend one or both of you travel the short trip from Aix to Marseille MP2 to meet her flight. It would comfort her if you put yourselves out for her. The immigration q at MP2 was very long and there was only our flight newly arrived. 1 official on duty who inspected every passport.

Thanks very much, sounds like we will be best to meet her there.

Hi, It is very straightforward to get the bus from Marseille airport to Aix. When you come out of MP2 turn right and walk past maybe 2 terminals for about 5 minutes, maybe less. There is a sign at the bus stop for Aix. There will be a bus approx. every 30 mins which costs €7.80. Just make sure to check that Aix en Provence is written on the bus as my aunt got the wrong bus and ended up in Salon de Provence!!! I hope this message is not too late.

Can I jump in and ask about the process in reverse?
|
The process in reverse is even easier! From Aix, you'll take the bus, commonly called the "navette" from the same place it drops you off which is about a 5 minute walk from the Office of Tourism in the center of town. Buses run to the airport every 30 minutes beginning at 4:40am. Cost is the same: 7,80 When going to the airport, the bus actually stops at the MP2 (low cost carriers) as well as the other terminals. This way, you won't be forced to make the long walk from the main terminal. - Brian

Quick afterthought about going to the airport from Aix. There are buses that run ONLY to the TGV station every 15 minutes, so you want to make sure that you get the bus to the airport as well. Buses going to the airport also stop at the TGV train station as it is on the way. So, if you happen to get on a TGV only bus, it's not the end of the world. You'll just get off at the train station and wait 15 minutes for the bus that continues on to the airport!

Thanks that's great info. We are coming in by TGV but have a flight from Marseilles to go to Rome. We might be able to hitch a lift with the group we're renting with for the week as we're all leaving the house the same day but I'm not sure if their flight time is close to ours.
