I posted in April this year asking for recommendations. I got a list from the Strasbourg tourist information bureau but the list only refers to the traditional Christmas meal on Christmas Eve.

Can anybody please tell me if they know whether any of the restaurants that will be open on Christmas Day, will be serving a traditional Christmas meal or have Christmas festivities going on?

As there are always so many tourists around in Strasbourg at Christmas I wanted to book ASAP to make sure we can get in somewhere.

I'm not sure about Strasbourg (It's just plain different to the rest of France for so many reasons!), but in most of France Christmas eve is the traditional time for a christmas meal. If youre looking for a Gemütlichkeit style Christmas you may well be disappointed.

I can't remember having been in a restaurant in France that did the turkey/roast veg/crimbo pud thing at Christmas. I guess they may exist, but.........

Christmas Eve has been my bete noir as far as restaurants go - you have to book early, and you have to be prepared to pay more, because it is when people go for broke. Christmas day itself is more small family stuff.

Hi tropicgirl

I might help you but first I would need to know what you call a christmas meal since the christmas meal is different in almost every countries. What kind of meal are you looking for ?

You have also to know that eating in a restaurant for Christmas will be expensive and most of the time you'll have only choice between 3-4 different menus...

hi,

Thank you both for your replies.

Lionel, I'm looking for a restaurant that will have decorations and Christmas ambiance. I want to go to a restaurant that is celebrating Christmas (if that makes sense). Not one that just treats Christmas like any other day.

My Mum is French from NC so we don't need to have Christmas plum pudding (we usually have Buche De Noel every year anyway - even here in Australia) and the roast ham, but just something that serves a lovely festive Christmas meal that recognises the day.

It doesn't necessarily have to be in Strasbourg itself either. Colmar or Obernai or somewhere like that would be fine too.

My mother has never had a White Christmas (none of us have) and it's her dream, so if we can be somewhere where there is a chance of snow on Christmas Day that would be even better.

I'm not too worried about the cost - I just want it to be special for my Mum.

Also some suggestions for Christmas Eve Dinner (even if it is the Reveillon after Midnight Mass) if you have any, would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi we live here and i would suggest that you try the big hotels like the Hilton or the holiday inn - you can email them direct. We always ski over christmas so have no direct experience! BTW I am from Brisvegas!
