October weather.. and Lugano/Basel after Strasbourg?? |
|
Hello, Me, my mother and my sister are planning to visit Strasbourg and have decided that although it will be cold, we will brave the chill! However I am still wondering how is the weather in October? We don't mind a bit of rain and cold as long as the weather is not gloomy/grey like we have here in England :)) Also, we are hoping to go to Switzerland afterwards but could not decide between Lugano and Basel.. which is nicer? Is there a direct train to go to each places? Many thanks, Primarosa |

You may be lucky with the weather as last year there were plenty of warmish and sunny days right up to the end of October. Of course there can be rain, but I don't think it's as miserable here when it rains, the weather doesn't come straight off the sea so it's less "damp". There's a very good rail link - see the link here to explore. http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en? Basel can be little more than an hour and is direct, but Lugano is a longish trip. Have fun, Jon

Hello Jon 88400, Thanks so much for your help.. and the website is excellent!! I have figured that Basel should be closer, so will go there instead of Lugano, or to Berne which is another 1 hour from Basel. The thing is there was someone on TA (I forgot which forum) who said that Basel is very boring.. lol. But anyway, I think Berne should be more interesting for the preserved medieval town centre. Many thanks!! Primarosa

Hi Primarosa, glad to have been a help. I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of Swiss people who would argue about Basel being boring but I guess it depends what you like - it's definitely not like Newcastle city centre at chucking out time, but I think that's a good thing. Berne would be nice and is also well located if you're there for a few days to make trips out (eg to Basel) as it's quite central.

Alrighty, Now I have heard also about Lucerne, which should be nice but very tourist(y)? I hope not.. Decision, decisions... very hard to make! lol But I still have about 2 months to decide, so it'll be ok Thank youuu!!
