We will be staying in Strasbourg for 4 nights. Besides the ususal day trip to Colmar can anyone suggest other outings.

You could take a trip into the Black Forest, just over the border in Germany. If it's your thing there are lots of spa towns such as Baden Baden where you can spend a couple of hours bathing in hot springs. There is also lot of medieval history to exlore (castles etc).

From Colmar you can go up to the Vosges mountains where there are lots of nice lakes and good trails to walk or cycle on.

Basel is a lovely Swiss city to visit, as is Freiburg (in Germany, but close to Colmar).

Yes, Baden-Baden is only 35 miles away and a must see. It is also a starting point for the black forest high road (B500)and the :

You could go to Saverne, its a small but beautiful city west of Strasbourg which you can easily reach by train or car from Strasbourg. Very suitable for a day trip.
