Hi all,

My wife and I are traveling to Ireland in late September and are arriving into Shannon on Wednesday morning, the 24th. We will not be renting a car and we will be flying out of Dublin either on Saturday the 27th or Sunday the 28th (Not really enouth time to scratch the surface of your beautiful country but this is unfortunately all we have). We assume that the best mode of transportation would be train between stops. Our interest is to see the beautiful country side and as many of the tourist oriented attractions we can. The tentative direction we were planning to go was to Limerick, Cork, Kilkenny?? or whereever else we should plan to see along the way. (Other advice welcomed & appreciated) We also planned to take bus tours in each area, where possible.

I would appreciate any advise on where to stay (no hotels set up yet), what to see and how we go from point to point. I would rent a car but my wife freaks out the thought of me driving in Ireland, non-negotiatable. (See who wears the pants in this family!). Also, I would say we should plan the itenerary around arriving in Dublin Friday night with a Saturday AM departure, in case we have to.

Thanks so much to all. Sorry for long post.

Ed

Are those dates correct, you have 3 days in Ireland counting your arrival day in Shannon?

If that's the case I would recommend flying into and out of either Dublin or Shannon, not mixing the two. You're going to spend a lot of time getting from place to place without a car.

You really can't fit Limerick, Cork, Killenny, and Dublin into a Wednesday-Friday trip.

Thanks Irishfan. Unfortuntely for reasons we can change, we have to fly into Shannon and our of Dublin. The only variable is when we leave Dublin, which could possibly be Sunday. If we leave Dublin on Sunday, do you have an abbreviated itenerary you could recommend? I am fully aware that doing these rushed, skim the top trips is NOT the way to do it. We would prefer to take our time but we have to meet family in Italy and we are stuck with the dates we have. The good news for us is that we plan to come back and do it right in the future.

Thanks again for any suggestions you may have.

I would agree with the staying in Clare for the two days but the bus ride to Dublin takes about 3 1/2 hours and it is not nearly as comfortable as taking the train. Granted it is less expensive,13E compared to 24E for the train but on the train you are free to move around, have a drink, use the restroom etc. Train takes approx. three hours.
