The Bank Bar and Rogue Traders restaurant |
|
We were travelling from Cork to Galway on Saturday 14th July and decided to stop in Limerick for food. We went into the "Bank Bar and Rogue Traders Restaurant" in O'Connell Street at 7.30 p.m., got seated immediately and 15 minutes later (7.45 p.m.), a nice young waitress took our order. My wife ordered a fish cake starter and a main course of lamb shanks. Being in a hurry, I did not order a starter, but ordered their "classic burger" as a main course. My wife got her starter which turned out to be superior to the fish cake starter we had the previous night in Jury's Hotel in Cork. That was the end of the good news. Our main course was not served until 8.38 p.m., a full 53 minutes after the waitress took our order and 1 hour and 8 minutes after we were seated!. The burger was overdone and very dry but edible. We finished our main course and asked for the bill. It took over 10 minutes for them to produce a bill which was barely legible as the ink cartridge in the cash register obviously needed replacing. We paid and left, passing the gentleman who welcomed us into the establishment when we arrived but who did not even thank us for our business as we left. The restaurant is called "Rogue Traders", and the interior decor makes reference to John Rusnak, who in 2003 was sentenced to 7.5 years imprisonment for fraudulent currency dealings at Allfirst Bank, part of the AIB group. The currrent operators of "The Bank Bar and Rogue Traders Restaurant" while not suggesting they are in any way involved in criminal activity, could equally be considered rogue traders for their abysmal customer service. We will not be going back. . |

Good thing you rushed right home to join Tripadvisor to spread the news lol.

Those timings do not sound unreasonable for dropping in on spec at 7.30pm on a Saturday evening. As for the printer ribbon running out..strikes me that you're looking for things to complain about.

My wife ordered a fish cake starter..... Being in a hurry, I did not order a starter.... Just wondering how you were going to save time here?

I booked a table for 4 in this restaurant for my fathers birthday for a saturday night at 8pm in september. We were seated straight away and waitress took our order. Before that, everything fine but waitress had very little english, had no knowledge of menu. We ended up pointing to what we wanted cause it looked like she hadn't a clue what was on menu. My father and sister ordered steaks, she never asked them how they wanted it cooked because she proceeded on to next person without asking rare etc. During ordering she announced they had no potatoes, which I found utterly ridiculous as it was a saturday night, we had a table booked a week in advance. 'Buy a bag of spuds' I wanted to tell her! There was a big match on that night so good management they would have been prepared for a busy period. We had to ask three times for a ice bucket, dinner was 40 minutes(steaks were asked to be well done but still doesn't take 40 minutes) we were only order in at that time anyway. Meal was average, I wouldn't brag about it or anything but it was ok, I had fajitas. We had desserts but when we'd finished we had to wait around 20 mins for bill. At this stage my sister was really freaking out but I was trying to keep calm for my fathers sake. Definately didn't leave a tip! I think we'll be going to our regular haunt next time, Texas Steakout on oconnell st. Fantastic food, service etc

I cannot understand why, if you were "in a hurry" that your wife ordered a starter and you didn't, it doesnt seem to make sense. Also if you had a problem with service, why didnt you make a complaint to management? I have eaten in The Bank Bar & Rogue-Traders restaurant many times, and I have to say that their food and service is excellent, it has to be one of the best establishments in Ireland and all I have ever heard were glowing reports from anyone that has eaten there. Give them a break, and make your issues known to management, they obviously didnt realise you were disgruntled.

Anyone that is even remotely impressed with the standard of food in this place is very easily pleased. Without doubt the worst food I (and my girlfriend, brothers and parents) have EVER eaten in Limerick (We're all locals who regularly eat out around town). And the attitude of some of the bar higher-ups isn't great either.

When you are in a hurry normal things that might not bother you so much tend to be magnified. For example if you were with a group of friend enjoying some drinks you may not have been so fixed on the time. It could have been a bad night for the place...it really depend on who the cook is.

Do not drink the draught beer in the Bank Bar, unless you want to poison yourself.

Ryano - You must think every bar has bad beer.
Did you ever see the movie Conspiracy Theory?
