well i have to agree that irish eyes do smile in the pubs. but have to admit that shopkeepers try to give the wrong money if they smell you are a foreigner as i am a foreigner too even though i live here for a long time, but you just have to be extremely careful in some sweetshops, so i have had a good few experiences when they hear your dialect and they do try.but we soon have the days back we are spending the nights at home and sing songs in the back gardens.maybe not such a bad thing the resession or whatever you call it.and the sweetshops be selling the old pennie sweets again

lonneke - how did that sing song in the back garden work out last night? :)

not last night but in the past , in summer we dutch have barbeques in the gardens, and all the neighbours join in, instead of having to listen to the noise and enjoying themselves, not to mention the new year when the whole village get out visiting houses, and some getting into bed in the afternoon on newyears day, so we need the recession to get back, to the jolly times.
