Does anyone know where I could obtain details of the original Muckross House? I realise the present one was built in 1843....but I am particularly interested to know just where the House before that was situated? Also, what happened to it? Are there any remains of this building?

Many thanks

Margaret

Interesting, I didn't know there was a predecessor to it. Let us know what you find.

Yes there was a house there belonging to the Herbert family in the 18th century. A distant aunt was married to Henry Arthur Herbert the first(1756-1821)(grandfather of the gentleman by the same name who had the present Mucrkross House built). I am unsure what happened to this house; likewise its actual whereabouts.
