Planning on a week with a car rental first part of September and our first visit for two active couples who enjoy food/drink/ hiking/biking etc. without big city stuff.

Have debated about a house in the countryside vs a village location where we can have a drink at noght and not worry about driving afterwards.

Thinking about Doolan or Ballyvaughan and keeping our lodging costs to about 70 euros/couple/night.

Are you looking for specific recommendations for Doolin (note spelling) and Ballyvaughn?

You've posted your question in the Killarney forum, which is quite a distance from those areas, which are in County Clare.

So you may want to repost in the Clare forum. Are you looking for a rental house (Called "self catering" in Ireland) or a Bed/Breakfast?
