Run the Gap of Dunloe |
|
I'm wanting to run the Gap of Dunloe so I'm wondering what the elevation change is. Is the road on a gradual incline, up and down, flat, etc...? Would it be silly to run it? |
|
The Gap is just one part of the Black Valley. There are two ways of approaching it - one to run the complete Black Valley (in which case there are some EXTREMELY steep switch back roads) or just head to Kate Kearney's run up and then run back (this is the easier of the two alternatives) I've seen people walk the black valley route. I've seen people cycle it. Coming from the Black Valley IMHO it would be to steep to run - it is a hill walk.

Looks like I'm running to Kate's Cottage! Thank you for the advice...

Agreed. The run from Kate Kearney's to the top would be more interesting. It is a mixture of flat and incline with the very last portion being the steepest. From the Black Valley side, say parking at the church, would be a steady incline all the way. Just keep your ears open for other traffic. The horses and jaunting cars will be easy to hear but the cars tend to creep up on you and seem to be less considerate of other visitors.
