|

Can anyone help me to planning a trip to ireland and where to start? want it to be warm season? which is what time of here in us? hubby's last name is gallagher and any info on where to go would be great...do they have beaches, coastlines in ireland?
thank you gabby

It's an island. Yes, it has beaches and coastlines. :) There's actually quite a bit of surfing in Ireland now. What do you like to do whilst on vacation, sight-see? Make friends and get to know a place? Nature stuff, or shopping? Ireland is not going to be particularly hot, although it can have warmer days than others. Does your husband still have family in Ireland, or does he know where they came from?

Gabby The following web-sites will hopefully give you a taste of Ireland: http://www.discoverireland.com http://www.heritageireland.ie/ Probably nicest times of year are May-June and September. July and August can be good, too, but it is also school holidays so very busy, and usually more expensive. I wouldn't class Ireland as a "beach resort destination". Although there are some lovely sandy beaches around the coast, I don't think many of us visit Ireland to spend very much time on a beach - but that may just be me!! I expect you'll find the sea extremely cold! You might like to consider taking a coach tour, or the other alternative would be to hire a car and tour around part of the country. I'd recommend spending 10-14 days in Ireland to really enjoy some of the beauty that this lovely Island has to offer: I'm afraid I can't help much on family history research, but I did come across the following web-site: www.gallagher.com/cgi-bin/discuss/discus.cgi… I think if your husband can find out the county/town where his family came from this would be a huge help. Hopefully this will be a start for you! :-)

Gabby - the name is pretty widespread, with origins in Donegal : You might also find these useful. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallagher_%28surname%29 www.donegaldirect.ie/ws_section_list.aspx… There's plenty of surfing in county Clare, in particular Lahinch and surrounds. Some surfing links attached, and if you do happen to be in county Clare, stop by : :)

hubby says family past was in county mayo...does this make any sense to anyone? what part is this? thanks for everybodys help on this:) gabby

Big beautiful, often sparce county with fantastic beaches. Take a look at http://www.achilltourism.com/places.html http://www.mayo-ireland.ie/Mayo/roots.htm http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/ Take out a copy of the old classic 'the quiet man' for some great images. You'd need to narrow down the county a bit - it is quite large!

gabby, there is a thing called an atlas. It's where you can look up countries and find out about them. We used to have a warm season in Ireland, I believe it was called... hmmmm.... hmmmm.... oh yes, it was called "Summer". It has disappeared. We've had the heating on in July. If you're lucky you'll get temperatures in the low 20's (Celsius), if you're very lucky you might get higher than that but there's no guarantee. You don't come to Ireland for the weather or the beaches. You come because you want to see the country and meet the people. gabby, forget about Jamaica. Bring your Gallagher hubby to Ireland. Enjoy. I think you will!

There is no warm season here , its summer here now and I have a big coal fire on so forget that. There are beaches but you won't be lying down sunning yourself or anything. As for your husbands name - very common. Mayo is a county you'll find it on a map. Other than that I'm not sure what other info you're looking for . Unless he has paper work and makes his family tree and tries to track down relatives theres not much more information we can give you.
