My husband and I have just returned from a weekend break in Killarney Country club. We took a one bed self catering appartment for 3 nights. Towels provided it said. We got 4 for the two of us for 3 nights and one tea towel, no cleaning equipment if we wanted to cook also no infromation folder which would give the telephone numbers to local hospital doctor etc and for church services places of interest, which we found in every good self catering place we have ever stayed around Ireland in the past 20 years. The reception was open on Friday evening when we arrived and we got our key, after that no one in charge was to be seen. If you had a problem you were to contact the bar on the site. Each night we experienced, roaring shouting, singing, screaming, people running up and down the hallway between two and four p.m. needless to say we didn't go out to complain for our own safety. We left this morning at 9.30 a.m with the reception still closed, a total disaster of a weekend for the princely sum of 390euros. never again.

You should contact the Country Club manager with the above observations, you might consider sending a letter addressed to the Manager rather than an email which could go anywhere.

I would suggest that the towels and lack of local info would be minor considerations, people making noise in the middle of the night would be more serious, reception closed at 9.30 am is not great either, though if you had had a good night's sleep it wouldn't have seemed so bad.

What was your accommodation like overall - quality of bed, bathroom, cleanliness, facilities etc? There is not much info about Killarney country Club on TA, a review would be useful.

thank you for your input. i have emailed the manager at the complex and Failte ireland so will await reply hopefully in the morning as this is a Bank holiday in ireland. the reception actually closed at 5.00p.m Friday afternoon. the room was basic enough, but clean as was the linen etc. I think it was the total lack of security in the place that amazed us, considering this is a place which offers family holidays. there was a notice in an outside door outside the reception which stated this door was to be left open at all times, which left free access to anyone into the hallways. As i have stated to the manager of the complex and Failte "it is an incident waiting to happen there."

Poor Fuscia, I know what that's like - bummer. Read my similar experience at the Leenane Hotel in connemara.

tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g212985-d616…

We complained when we were checking out and they took two bottles of wine off our bill !!! (Probalby cost them about a tenner and cost us two nights sleep)

I got the email address of the manager and emailed him about our terrible stay there - he never responded. That was almost two years ago and it still bugs me. Needless to stay we will never go back there even though it's not a bad hotel and the location is very good.

Also, sorry to hear of your bad experience. I hope it will not deter you from returning to Killarney. Perhaps you would care to write a review of the establishment here on TA. I think you would be the first for Killarney Country Club and it is likely to generate a response from the management but more importantly let more travelers know of the service, or lack thereof, that was provided you.

I hope you had a nice experience in Killarney this year. Since I last posted I have been in contact with Killarney country club and they offered me a free thatch cottage which I am taking up next weekend. When I complained directly to them after our bad experience, I must say the girl I dealt with couldn't have been more apologetic. So I will let you know how the thatch cottage is.

Good on you for exposing problems. So many others just

throw in the Towel ,( forgive pun in light of your post:) ), and do and say nothing.

Your contacting Management and F.I is correct first step and hopefully you will get something back. But a full Review ,(perhaps after their Management has given you some solace) is a 'must'.

As a regular user of the killarney country club, I am surprised to learn of your dis-satisfaction with your stay. I have enoyed many fabulous weekends there with no problems. In fact, I cannot praise the staff highly enough for willingness to help. The facilities are very good, the grounds are well maintained and the views are to die for. It's always wise to pack a few extra towels for the trip. I can honestly say that I would recomend the country club to anyone. Hope you will return!
