Day Tours Unplugged? |
|
Trying to plan out some activities for my honeymoon in Ireland. It's our first trip there and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on this tour group. I'm considering the SOUTH COAST WICKLOW MOUNTAINS ADVENTURE & GLENDALOUGH day tour. I plan on going to Powerscourt while I'm in Ireland, but would I see the same things on the way to Powerscourt that I'd see on this tour? We wont be renting a car so we'd be taking a tour bus or the DART every place we go. We'll be there the end of September. If anyone else has any other day tours they recommend I would very much appreciate it! ~Janelle |

By the way we're staying in Dun Laoghaire if that helps at all.

My husband and I used Day Tours Unplugged in May 2007 and were not disapoointed. We went on the tour to Glendalough. Damien was our guide and he could not have been better. He gave tidbits of info of various things that were later interlaced throughout the tour. It's not the typical toungue-in-cheek tour with the Blarney a blowin' (don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with the Blarney) but more a insight into the country as whole.
I for one could not recommend this tour enough!
Whatever your plans... enjoy!!

Hi RN Nellie I’m not familiar with the day tour that you mentioned, but there is a private bus service that brings you to Glendalough, http://www.glendaloughbus.com/fares.html this I have used, and found it very good. Powerscourt is situated in a small little village called Enniskerry. The village is in a valley, all the roads bar one (the original and oldest was cut through rock) out of the village lead upwards! It’s also known as the Alpine Village due to the foliage and is very picturesque and quaint, so to answer your question, no, you won’t come across the same scenery!! Powerscourt Castle is a good day, there’s fabulous garden’s with near extinct variety’s of tree’s, flowers and shrubs. Numerous walks, coffeshops and giftshops also. You can get the Dart from Dun Laoighaire to Bray Station. They run every twenty mins or so but are more frequent mid-week and during peak times. Then just outside the door of the station you can get the bus 185 to Enniskerry, (about €2.50) www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/viewer.asp… I would advise you to beware though, that in September the schools are back and that buses tend to fill up with school kids between about 4.00 to 5.30 in the day. You could also cross the road and get a taxi to Enniskerry, shouldn’t cost you more than €15.00. When you arrive in Enniskerry, there are a couple of lovely coffee shops and gift shops, hopefully it won’t be raining and you can wander around!! There’s a small hotel there, that has a real old fashioned bar and serves the best Guinness!!! Powerscourt is a ten minute walk (uphill) from the village. This will only bring you to the gate’s of the driveway of the castle, it’s about another ten minute’s walk to the actual castle, however the views are spectacular and well worth it. Hope that’s helpful to you and enjoy your trip!!
