Hi, I am going to Dublin with a group of mates 26th sept and it's all our first time.

I have heard from a couple people that drink's prices over there are well dear £4 a pint!!!Jeez!! Im gonna need to rob a bank to fund this trip lol.

Is that the going rates for beer or exageration??

Could some one post the low down of rough prices of drink's please so I can gauge how much money im goona need? cheers.

Dublin is VERY expensive, not only for drinks but eating out too.

Take a look at this thread for drink prices:

I think you need to remember that Dublin being more expensive has a lot to do with the weakness of the £pound. £1 is now only worth 1.20euro or so now whereas a year ago it was worth 1.45euro.

A pint here is from 4.50 to 5.50 euro. Temple Bar is the dearest place and no locals drink there as it is not the best place to go. If you go to a tourist trap area expect to pay higher prices

Beer Prices.......... are from €3.80 to €5.50 for a pint of guinness in Dublin. Thats about £3 to £4.30. And we dont have a happy hour.

Temple Bar is most definately not the best place in Dublin to go out. Much better bars, pubs and clubs in other parts of the city.

If you would like PM me with what kind of scene ye are looking for age groups music etc

The price of a pint in Dublin can head towards (and over) €6 in Temple Bar and places like "Cafe en Seine" as the night goes on. They seem to raise the price by the hour after midnight. Depending on your exchange rate that can be almost £5 but it's only in the really busy late night spots.

The rest of country can be anything from 25% to 50% cheaper than that.

That's no exaggeration I'm afraid. We were in Temple bar last week, we ordered a Guiness and a vodka & coke which came to 14.90 Euros!!

Was there last week and can confirm above.

Temple Bar......2 pints of Guiness, 1/2 pint Guiness, Vodka & Coke:

An absolute bargain at 24 Euro !!!

Literally got back today and the cheapest we paid for 2 pints of beer was 11.40 Euros. Food is seriously overpriced too, a drunken trip to burger king (3 meals) set us back 25 euros. We didn't dare go on spirits as a single Jack and coke was about 7/8 euros. We went to a few bars all over and its the same everywhere ... The locals said there is nowhere reasonable to drink in Dublin and check about serving times as well. The taxi driver told us alot of new laws have been brought in and it was extremely difficult to find a beer after 11-11.30pm if it was not Sat night. We left in the end and went to Northern Ireland as we could not have afforded to stay. I am sure you will have a great time but maybe think of buying some spirits in the airport on your way over.

A piece on English Sky News stated today

that they are predicting £4.00 a pint in English pubs very soon due to raw material costs etc.

Dublin is no different that going to London. The bigger cities make more money hence higher prices , so if you go where the big boys play , make sure you have deep pockets!

Anyways , go West next time. Lower prices for everything including the beer!

"the cheapest we paid for 2 pints of beer was 11.40"

If this is the case then you mustn't have gone anywhere but Temple Bar. There are many places where pints are under 5euro.

Also you should realise that the sterling is very weak right now so that is the biggest contributing factor to it being expensive for you. £1 is now about 1.25euro whereas a year ago it was closer to 1.50euro so it is now 20% dearer for you in eurozone countries than before.

You should also note that spirits here are 35.5ml measures compared to 25ml in england so even though they are dearer they are also 30% larger
