We are planning a trip to Ireland next March and will be leaving Dingle on March 18 to head to Galway. I have read enough on this site to know that it would be a long day's drive so I was planning on spending the night somewhere along the way. However, most of the places I have contacted are not opening until April. We are looking for a place with a pretty room, sea view, and excellent food. Any suggestions on places to stay?

Alternately, how hard is it to drive from Dingle to Galway in one day? Would we have time to see the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren? What about the Loop Head drive?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

why not stay in Ennis for the night - there is a lovely hotel right in the centre of town - temple gate hotel - you can explore Ennis (an hour from Galway) and take a leisurely drive to Galway next morning.

These have all fantastic sea views, rooms and restaurants - would facilitate your Loop Head drive (assuming that you're taking the ferry Tarbert to Killimer) and make for a nice paced trip through the Burren / cliffs of Moher the next day.

Perfect - thank you!

I estimated two hours from Dingle to the ferry. Does that sound reasonable?

How long would you estimate for the Loop Head Drive?

Per aa roadwatch :

Time: 1 hr 26 min

Total Distance (Km): 97.37

So 2 hours will more than cover it from Dingle to Tarbert.

Take over an hour for Loop Head, because you'll want to drop by to see the briges of Ross, which is very close to the church of the ark in Kilbaha.

If you can, take a look at one of our DE experts sarniagirl for a review.

I would stay in Adare...it's one of the most quaint villages in Ireland (in my opinion) and would be good halfway mark...last month, I stayed in Galway, and then stopped in Adare for the night on the way to Dingle. It was just about the right amount of driving...plus can see all the sights along the way, and not be in a rush.

Avoid the Ferry. Those B's put the one way price to €17. Its not worth the money really because you would miss out on Adare and Limerick and Ennis on your way from Tarbert to Killimer.

You should stay in Limerick. Lots of restaurants and hotels/ b&bs to choose from.

The worst part of your Journey is from Dingle to Waterville because the roads are quite bad for a national route. After that the roads will be excellent.

Bertie - kfoster is looking for sea views, and wants to visit Clare's coast - BUT - glad to read that you now feel that Ennis is worth a stop:)

Ferdia is right - I want to see the sea. Actually, I want to see everything but I realize that I have to choose and I opted for the coast. Plus, my husband loves ferries!

But thank you for the suggestions.

Moy House isn't open mid-week in March but in at it, I found the Lahinch Golf and Leisure Hotel. The reviews are a little mixed though and it doesn't seem to have sea views. Does anyone know how close it is to the water? Is Lahinch a nice town to stop in for a night?

How about

Please check the reviews, but in the same area.

I love Lahinch - nice choice of pubs & restaurants (if you like views, O'Looneys has fantasic views) and a lovely beach to walk along.

Well if you like the ferry and/or boats in General and want to see a lot of coast then:

Take the Cliffs of Moher tour from Doolin

Take the Aran Island Ferry from either Doolin or Galway City Centre.

Doolin is of course just east of the Cliffs of Moher and in the depths of the Burren and the beauty of Clare.

Ferdia, dont worry Im not anti Ennis, LOL
