I'm oragnising a hen do and I have just booked an 8 bedroom lodge at Turnberry for the weekend (May). There will be 16 ladies in total and I need some help with where to go out. I reckon Ayr is the nearest town so I was hoping you could offer a few suggestions of nice bars and perhaps a club. We're all about 25-28 years old. Also a great restaurant would be helpful too.

Hi McKay!

There's a new restaurant/bar place thats about to open in Ayr called the Malt Cross. It may well fit the bill if you're looking for somewhere stylish. I hope to check it out when its properly up and running.

As far as Ayr goes its full of bars and restaurants ranging from basic to a bit special. Best check out the Ayr Overview/Travellers articles link more info on the town, attractions and clubbing:

Also the Dining scene link might be useful:

Come oan there hen! and PC; you're too PC!!

16 Aussie ladies at Turnberry? All they need to do is to go up to the bar in that small hotel there; millionaires and celebs all over. They might even meet Terry Wogan or Bruce Forsythe!

Buddy I don't think they are quite ready for the wrinkly brigade yet, lol;-)

McKay if you need a restaurant close to Turnberry then just a couple of miles up the coast in Maidens is Wildings Restaurant, which despite the bland exterior is lovely inside and the food is a big hit with Turnberry escapees. If you ditched the high heels you could even walk it!

Check it out on tA for the reviews:

If you have transport its worth popping up to Souter Johnnies in Kirkoswald village also. Just a few miles away from Turnberry on the A77 - reviews on Tripadvisor are good!

Good one! I knew there was a Moscow in Ayrshire but now I know there is a Melbourne in Derbyshire and in the East Riding !!! I did think OZ was a long way away but presumed the 16 were flying over in a private jet if they're staying at that 5* resort.

PC: the more wrinkly - the more money. The more wrinkly - the sooner the more money becomes available!

Go on then thenoo; you're staying next to one of the most expensive hotels and golf courses in the UK very much frequented by the rich and famous, some of whom will be staying in the lodges rather than the hotel. If you do know of him (your UK friends will) Sir Terry Wogan uses the lodges with his family.

Give the Turnberry Hotel bar a try; there might well be young millionaires, US film stars and sports stars there.

Even if you don't want to grab one and prefer the young lads of Ayr; have a look before going into the highspots of Ayr.

Take your cheque book and up the limit(considerably) on your plastic if visiting the bar at Turnberry.

I was there the other week, and it is frightening. Thankfully though I was not paying.

16 gorgeous Aussie and Scots girls? They won't need to pay! OR they could look at it as an "investment".

Seriously, my wife and I have gone into bars in 5* hotels in London and in Nice/Cannes/Monte Carlo. You can always just have a look and say you're looking for someone.

Why Braveheart himself could be there? Interesting to know if, under the circumstances, he would speak bad Glesga; American; or revert to Oz.
