staying on royal mile best place for nightlife |
|
hi am going to edinburgh in september with 12 friends for my 30th and we are staying on the royal mile can you recommend where is the best place for us for nightlife we are all in our 30s and first time away with us all being mothers but love to have a great time |

The Grassmarket/ Cowgate area is best for groups. There is the Three Sisters pub just across from the Smart City Hostel which has a lovely outdoor courtyard if the weather is nice. There are loads of pubs all along the Grassmarket area as well as many restaurants, and all within walking distance. Beware though many of the streets are cobbled so watch out in those high heels!

Hi Staying on or near the Royal Mile is simply a great Location for everything. Tourism , Culture and in your case Nightlife! I would caution however that the centre of Edinburgh is different from many city locations in that people actually live there full time. It can be just as busy at 10.00pm as at 10.00am. To me that is part of its charm and If I could afford it I too would live there! In response to previous poster the 3 Sisters is not right oposite the Smart City Hostel, but a bit further along (still quite close). There is also a great night club at the foot of Blair Street called Caberet Voltaire, and if you are up for a laugh try The Stand Comedy Club on York Place, or Jonglueurs at the Omni Centre just the other side of the East End of Princes Street. Depending on where you are staying on the Mile then these will all be within maybe 10 mins walk. TST.

You could also try George St and the area around it for the more'upmarket' bars. Try Le Monde, Ricks, Tonic, Tiger Lily, Candy Bar. Can be a bit pretentious, but good for cocktails. Really depends what you're in to.

For late night drinking and dancing there is The Jam house at 5 Queen Street, also Madogs on George Street.
