Just wondered if you see most the places listed just walking the royal mile and seeing the castle, or is it worth using? Some cities we found HOHO, to be great because everything was spread out all over the city like Barcelona. Other cities stuff is around a central area and you see it all just walking around. Thanks. |

Here is the website for the different tours available. We enjoyed the one with a live guide. These guides are very knowledgeable and quite interesting to talk to. You will see on the maps of these tours that there is quite a lot to see and some of the venues quite far apart.

Edinburgh is a hilly city. I recommend the bus because you get good information and can connect (sans steep climbs) from one spot to the next.

we did the horrible history hop on hop off bus but to me it was quite dreary. It was a recorded commentary and the kids could press a different number for the horrible histories one but they werent that impressed (they are 10 and 14) and would have read the horrible histories books. We did see the old vintage buses with the live guide during the week after that and even though we had done our own tour i was tempted to go on it to experience a different tour. If I were to go again I would take the live guide. Enjoy, I loved Edinburgh.

the Vintage Buses have the best guides ,my friend Agnes is a regular guide on these buses and is very good,if you get a chance just ask when agnes is doing the comentary and I am sure you will have a great time. There are several different tours available and it is a great way of orientating yourself with the city and from the top of the bus you see things you don't see on foot. As I know you have been to Prague then I can describe Edinburgh's main historic areas are about a similar size and spread as Prague though maybe a few more hills, there is also an Old Town and New town again a similar distance apart as Prague.
