Hi, we are looking to arrange a meet up next month and as we travel from Lancashire and my parents from Colchester, somewhere around Leicestershire or Nottingham seemed like halfway (we both travel using the A1).

Could anyone recommend both accommodation and dining options?

Ideally a village/small town location with character and history, good pubs and ales and as we're foodies some hearty english fayre!!

Budget is ideally no more than £150 per night but what we don't want is a big sprawling concrete jungle to stay in, just somewhere laid back and more pleasing on the eye

Thanks in advance

Hi,

No idea of costs, but what about:

http://www.woodboroughhall.co.uk/

It's in a nice village, with several other nice villages (with good pubs) around like Lambley, Lowdham, Thurgarton & about 20 mins from Southwell, which is a nice old town, full of character.

Regards

There is a nice village in the Vale of Belvoir called Redmile - there are some lovely villages and pubs in the area and you can see and visit Belvoir Castle from there.

One of the pubs with good food and accomocadtion is The Peacock http://www.thepeacockinnredmile.co.uk.

The Peacock Inn at Redmile is lovely. Olde Worlde pub, lots of history, beams and real ales. Great pub and restaurant food. They do a special for £99 per room which includes 3 course table d'hote meal, double or twin room and breakfasts for 2 - fantastic value. My partner and I have stayed there twice recently and they make you very very welcome. There's also another lovely traditional bar/eatery a few doors up called the Windmill, but they only have a cottage for rent and I think it's a week minimum rental.
