I have had a bad experience booking, and subsequently trying to cancel a weekend reservation with this B&B.

Having made numerous attempts without reply to cancel a booking with these people I ended up writing to them- all in vain as they took the full cost of the booking (£140) from my credit card account anyway, without my permission. When I tried to contact them to discuss this I was met with nothing but unpleasentness- to date I have only been able to recover half of the funds.

As I never actually stayed at the B&B I cannot comment about the facilities- only the lack of customer care- disgraceful!

Pete, I had to reply because I wanted to let you know that we have had nothing but fabulous experiences with Knowles Lodge. Myself and my partner live in London and we've visited Knowles Lodge 3 times now and each time we were incredibly impressed.

It's such a shame that you've had such a bad experience as we've found that the customer service has been outstanding. As we went on a walking holiday, the owners even drove us to and back from dinner because it was raining and we had no other transport! We also take our dog and they have been incredibly accommodating as far as that goes...even lending us a dog bowl. The provided for our dietary needs (my partner is lactose intolerant) and generally went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We had full use of a beautiful living room and television room, a veranda and absolutely everything we requested was given to us immediately no matter how much trouble it was.

The rooms were beautifully decorated and well equipped and

I really recommend that you perhaps give this another chance as it is simply one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in. It's position is amazing and the hosts are certainly very entertaining! I can only assume your experience must have been very bad luck and both myself and my partner are astounded that anyone has anything bad to say about this place...hence my very long post!

ps: we had to cancel a booking at very late notice once and although we realised we would have to pay they did do us a very good deal on the next stay.

I stopped there overnight with my son when we were doing the Dales Way - accommodation was spotless, and one of the few that we stayed at with an en suite bath rather than a shower room. Breakfast was excellent. Only downside was a long uphill walk to the pub with tired legs.

Two year old post!!

I guess if a five star b&b doesn't live up to expectation then whoever awarded the stars should be the first point of contact. The terms are stated quite clearly on their website though:

Looks nice.

My mother stayed here twice and enjoyed her stays. However,on the third occasion, I paid Pam Knowles Fitton £45.00 as requested for her single night, "£45.00 cash will be fine" but the following morning when I came to collect her, Chris Knowles Fitton came running out in the pouring rain to say that his wife has undercharged by £10.00, and demanded this be paid. No receipts were given.

Unfortunately, the bathroom was full of tiny flies, which were very unpleasant.

Will not therefore be using this establishment again.

Would be great if all experiences were posted as reviews of this property where they would be of more use to prospective travellers

Thanks for that-it really does help both in guiding others and helping owners realise what people think of them so they can improve
