I am looking to take a train from Heathrow into London. If I'm not pressed for time, I was thinking of taking the Heathrow Connect. It looks like it's about a 25 minute ride from Heathrow to Paddington (and MUCH cheaper than the Express). I wanted to find out if anyone has taken the Heathrow Connect and what their thoughts were. I am flying in from LA on Air France, not sure what terminal I end up at. Thanks!! =)

AF flights arrive and depart from T2 at LHR. The question is, at which hotel are you staying? If not near Paddington, you may be better off taking the Underground, unless you have a considerable amount of baggage.

Connect is a decent enough service, but it is a stopping train rather than a direct route. The carriages aren't as fancy as those on the HEX, but for such a short journey that really shouldn't be a deal-breaker.

As TP says, it depends where in London you are going, Paddington may not be a great choice and the tube might be better. Depends also on time of day, you don't really want to be on the tube at rush hour with luggage unless you only care about cost and not convenience.

Also, if there are a couple of you or more, a prebooked car will be similar price or cheaper as HEX.

I've used the Connect and thought it was perfectly fine, I wouldn't have paid the extra to use the Express. Takes a little longer than the Express but much cheaper. I've taken the tube to Paddington (Edgware Road actually) and it was a pain. But if you are not staying near Paddington, I'll echo what the others are saying and suggest that the tube might be easier.

Sorry for hijacking your thread SeaJae72

But i was just on the Heathrow Express website and noticed that the price for a ticket just doubled!!

Could anyone please help me understand this? I was ready to book and this is really a huge disapppointment to me.

thanks all

AV

AsianVisitor, I've just looked on the Heathrow Express website and a standard class ticket is £15.50, which is roughly what it's been for a while. Did you perhaps try to book two tickets and mistook the total for both as being the price for one ticket?

Sorry, I'm jumping on this thread too with a question. We are a family of four arriving on a Saturday morning from Heathrow to Kensington. What is the best way to get to Kensington?

Thank you!

For me personally, the Tube is torture after a long overnight flight. All that stopping and starting (there are 12 stops before you even get to Earl's Court) makes me feel lousy. So, the Connect is better, just 5 or so stops to Paddington. Even taking the Tube from there if you had to is easier. And the HEX is just highway robbery to me. Then again, if someone else was paying for it, I would probably feel otherwise. =)

"What is the best way to get to Kensington?"

For my value of 'best' a pre booked car. Let them know how much luggage you have so it will fit. Plenty of threads discussing recommended services.

Iggyfitz

I was on the site months back and the price per ticket was only GBP7.50 per way. anyway just too bad for me if it really did go up.

i'll just have to cough up or find alternative means of transportation. sigh...

AsianVisitor; I speculate that the 7.50GBP price you mention was for the Connect, not the HExpress. Have taken the Express 1/2 dozen times in the past two years and it's always been around $30Cdn+/- or 15GBP. Bit pricey but fast, convenient and the last time around in May, we had freebee vouchers because of a BritRail pass promotion. After an overnite flight out of Vancouver with luggage, the last thing I want to experience is the tube from Heathrow to Paddington at around rush-hour. The HExpress is so handy from Term3, I'd take the Express over a taxi, as for two people it's around the same price as a cab but without any traffic concerns. Have never done Connect but for a difference of $15/ticket +/- I'll stick to the Express.
