If you had to pick one of these two modern art museums, which would it be?

Both sound great, but we would like to spend more time enjoying the cities (London, Paris) than absorbing too much artwork.

I'm sure this will be an interesting discussion, but in case it matters, I know nothing about art and its intricacies. I just think it's great to see.

Thanks for your help.

(I will also post on the Paris forum - might be quite a different response!)

I disliked the Centre Pompidou when it was first built, but it's grown on me. And I much prefer the art there to that at the Tate Modern.

However, my favourite museum in Paris is still the Musee d'Orsay, not only for the building itself but for the works it holds. A superb collection.

Well, one difference is that the Tate Modern is free, the Pompidou Centre isn't. The National Gallery (on Trafalgar Square and also free) has modern art sections too, so if you don't want to spend too much time touring art galleries you could make that your focus.

Yes the Pompidou charges. When I was in Paris last month people were standing in line for up to an hour to get in. At Tate Modern you walk right in.

As already mentioned the Tate Modern free so you have nothing to lose and you can take in the SOuth Bank while you are there.

Isn't the Pompidou ctr free on the 1st Sunday of each month? again agree the best of the 3 is Musee D'Orsay.

As a Londoner, I really hate to say this, but if you have to choose between them, then it must be the Pompidou.

The Tate Modern has good views of London from the cafe balcony and has some good modern art (as well as a lot of second-rate art), but the Pompidou has more. Also I think the Pompidou is a purpose built building whereas the Tate Modern is trying to make the best use of a converted power station.

So the Pompidou it is (rats!)

By the way, if you're interested in the history of Texas, then while in London I hope you'll find your way here:

the equivalent in Paris has its address in the caption.

For me, the Pompidou has a number of disadavtanges, compared with the Tate Modern. I prefer the collection in the Tate, the Tate is much more convenient (and cheaper) to get to, and the Tate is free to get into, and has shorter queues.

Tate is part of Southbank, the walk, cafe, collection and it is free. Pompidou is close second.
