Can anyone advise on how to get from Gatwick to hotels in London other than the train to Victoria station? Are there airport shuttles, what would the cost of a taxi be?

thanks.

A taxi will cost you a busload of pounds.

Gatwick Express is the best way to go.

You could try Hotel Link, though.

I don't believe there are London Transport buses that go to Gatwick; it's about a hour by train, so that would take a while. There might be charter buses by NationalExpress and other smaller companies; I know that there are such buses that go to Stansted and Luton airports, so it's only logical there are also Gatwick buses.

I also took a taxi there with friends, it cost 45 pounds among us and took a while, especially with the traffic of central London.

Also, check with your specific hotel if they provide shuttles to and from the airport. Say specifically that you're coming in from Gatwick; they might have shuttles, but only to Heathrow and the like.

Agree, take the Gatwick Express to Victoria.

Otherwise there is a regular service, see "National Express" coach service which runs a frequent (hourly or more) from Gatwick to London.

Go to http://www.nationalexpress.com/?agentid=iaaaj

type in Gatwick to Vicotia Coach station. This is not the quicker option tho. Less hassle to take the Gat Express I would recommend.

I dont believe there are any shuttles to London Hotels, unless you make specific arrangements with your hotel. This could be very expensive tho. And a taxi even more (in excess of 50 easily).

Enjoy your visit.

We have booked with Simply Airports for August. The price was cheaper than train/taxi for our party of 6.

Thank you for the suggestions. In light of today's bomb scares, I am truly afraid to take public transportation. I am so angry to let this fear interfere, but I am 6 and a half months pregnant and traveling alone. It sounds like my only option is an expensive cab ride. Any thoughts?

a cab ride into Central London from Gatwick is going to cost around £100/100GBP and take min of 1:30hr. Ask for the price wheh you line up for the taxi's before getting in. The cabs at Gatwic are well organised. I would use the Gatwick express. But i can understand ytour predicament, I guess you have to weigh up the risks, but for eg, statistically, i've probabaly a much higher chance of being involved in an RTA driving around the M25 from Gatwick to Heathrow than anything happening to me on a tube train or London bus.

Forget the taxi. Hire a car. They will take you from Gatwick to your hotel and it will be cheaper than a taxi.

Go by train from Gatwick to central London - it will certainly be quicker and probably more comfortable - especially in first Class- than being driven. The M23 motorway which passes Gatwick soon comes down to an ordinary road and I have spend many happy hours in long queues around Purley and Croydon and frankly the view isn't all that interesting. Once you get to Victoria Station, take a cab to your hotel.
