We made the mistake of booking a 5 day brake at "the new Dorchester Hotel. As ihave a heart problem we asked about hotel parking as I can only walk a few yards,we were told "there is plenty of hotel parkimg".We arrived to find there was no parking a all and the proprieter refused to give any kind of refund. We looked at the room to find it was very small and unclean and had no working TV. the lounge stunk of tobacco and the evening meal was disgusting. We realised then why there was only one other couple staying there.Rather than face the ordeal of sleeping there and the horror of what the breakfast might be like we left and came home ....BAD NEWS FOR BLACKPOOL TOURISM , WARNING! dont make the same mistake,AND DONT RELY ON THEIR HONESTY WHEN BOOKING OVER THE PHONE..

please please call Blackpool,Councl about this. Is it the one on the prom with 'The Cricketers Favourite' sign outside? Call the council on 01253 477477 and ask the advisor to put you through to the appropriate dept.

look on it as your good deed for year of 2007 - it might just get the council to pay a bit of attention to this rancid filthy place and savesomoene else the misery of booking there.

Please do as Mrs Bouquet says. My Hotel, which is Visit Britain 3*** graded, used to also be called the Dorchester and following the TV programme "Hotels from Hell" I was almost out of business because the public associated my hotel with this one. You see he is not listed in the phone book and so all the flak came my way. I received an apology and an open letter from Yorkshire Television to say that mine was not the hotel in question but the damage had already been done. I was in despair with no enquiries and few bookings and about to give up and get out when a meeting with the Tourism Support Bureau was set up. The result of this meeting led to a change of name and a policy of higher quality together with a relaunch business study in 2004 which was possible due to the help provided by the TSB. Even with that my losses amounted to close to £10,000 for this mix up. That is why I objected so much to the negative review posted by a regular contributer to this forum, who had only made an e-mail enquiry. After being on my knees financially only a couple of years before through no fault of my own I was horrified that the same thing could happen again. As Mrs B says, you might just get the Council to do something about this digraceful place although they (the Council) will say that they have visited him on a number of occasions. Following each Council visit he simply does just enough to comply with the notice he is given and then carries on till the next time. Perhaps the Council need sharper teeth.

I can't believe something hasn't been done about that hotel. As we are located directly behind that hotel we have had countless visitors stay here that have left there without staying and without getting a refund. That hotel was one of the ones featured on the TV program Hotels from Hell years ago. The hotel manages to lure poor innocent tourists by way of their national newspaper ads, the name new added to the already impressive Dorchester name. Funnily enough I've just searched on the web for New Dorchester and found a hotel website called the Dorchester hotel. I had to pinch myself when I saw it, it was also at 28 Queens Promenade. I wandered to the seafront to check it really was the same as the New Dorchester and that is also no. 28. I suppose a giveaway should be that when you read the 'offers' page it still advertises for Christmas 2004. It really is bad news for Blackpool tourism when many of us are working hard to make our places better and standards higher to make Blackpool a better place and people like that are just 'using' Blackpool to line their pockets with total disregard to the town as a whole. I guess if somebody adds the hotel to tripadvisor then saintjon could be the first to write a review!!!

I remember that one. Wasn't he the one who, when guests complained of drips from the ceiling, tell them to lie at the other end of their bed !!

Cannot believe that he is still in business.

Such a shame as there are so many nice hotels along that end of the town.

Blackpool does have a large number of reputable hoteliers like ourselves, We have won awards with Blackpool Tourism last year and are in the finals again this year. Please do not be put off blackpool by a minority of disreputable hoteliers. Any one requiring accomodation can always contact Blackpool Tourism direct for impartial advice. Equally anybody with any complaints about a hotel should Always complain to blackpool tourism and the council direct they can only act on complaints please do not let these cow boys get away with it. I agree that the council should sort this problem and should monitor any hotels with a history of complaints on an on- going basis. You can always pay by credit card when booking this gives you extra reassurance reputable hoteliers will not mind and you then have a come back via the credit card company.

hi I just thought I would advise any potential clients of this disgusting hotel that he does not accept credit cards and requested that we send a cheque for the deposit I wonder how much of his income is made up of money conned out of people and does he declare this to the tax man maybe I will look into that one or maybe we all should all get together and claim the money he conned out of us back, I am sure that more makes a stronger case and if nothing else stop him from doing it again. Perhaps someone could let us know what progam he was on as we were not aware of it going on air , we will then get in touch with the makers and see if anything else can be done I can still see the horrible little man when I asked him were the car parking was his reply there is loads of parking in the streets all around with a shrug of the shoulders I new at that moment that this was not the place he had describded on the phone .

after Jane Seddon's 'smarten up or get out of Blackpool' speech last week, this is exactly the kind of hotel she needs to hear about, although she probably already does...

i hope you have contacted Blackpool Tourism over this.

I wish I had read this review before making a 3 night booking at this hotel. I was so upset when I arrived and was shown my "room". It was the most disgusting room Ive ever been in, the whole hotel stank and I couldnt see the dining room but felt sick just thinking about having to eat food there. When I said that I couldn't stay there because it was disgusting the manager refused to refund my deposit. He was very obnoxious with a "dont care" attitude, even when I said I would be reporting him. I did find somewhere else to stay, but this really upset me and spoiled my weekend. However now I am back home I am having difficulty getting someone to listen to my complaint. The local newspaper where I saw the advert dont want to know and everyone else, ie. tourist board, council etc, all say they will ring you back and dont. How do we get places like that closed down or fumigated and updated. I would love to know.

Remember if a hotel is that bad....then check out straight away and ask for your money back. If the owner refuses to give you your money back, leave and try not to dwell on it. When you return home write to Trading Standards, the hotel and dispute the transaction with your credit card firm. Your credit card firm will reverse the transation.

Always pay at a hotel with credit cards etc...if a hotel only takes cash then think...this is 2007 and you only take cash!..avoid.

Go around the corner to somewhere like King Edward Ave and find a guest house there.

Looking at The Dumpchester's website

http://www.dorchesterhotelblackpool.co.uk/

There is something missing.......pictures of the hotel and the rooms!

phone blackpool tourism on 01253 478222. do it now whilst you're still incensed.

I think i may have seen you going inthere at the weekend...as i drove by i commented to my friend that the dumpchester (fine name, coffee) had guests and we were sadly saying...'if only they knew...'

please please call blackpool tourism. They do already have an idea about it , the owner was prosecuted not too long back for breaching fire regulations but only more complaints will keep the powers that be onto this hovel.
