Pleasure Beach knocked off the top spot |
|
Did the PB think by charging £20.00 entry would keep them at the number 1 spot of the most popular free tourist attraction in UK? That must be hard news to swallow for them!! I don't think for one moment they will back down now, they can't really after receiving so much bad press about the decisions they have made. It will be interesting to see how half term works out for them. They sais the promotion of £20.00 has been successful in the past, of course it was, they still allowed FREE ENTRY into their park. Obviously they are now blaming the weather as indoor sports seem to be proving more popular. Well yes, if it's free to go in!!!!! |
|
This is bad news... An average family will not pay £20;00pp entry fee. I have heard on the grapevine that aswell as the £20, you also have to pay for the top rides ??? BPB are now aiming at their clients like stag and hen parties whom have money to burn forgetting families. Blackpool will soon become a ghost town !!!

Why would anyone blame the weather in Blackpool Phantom ? After all according to you its beach weather all year round isnt it ?
|
my, my the tedious response was really worth it!!!

With respect phantom, the only thing that's becoming tedious at the moment I would suggest are your constant posts having endless, and increasingly unnecessary digs, at the Pleasure Beach. You recently made comment about there being something like 6 people on the PMBO when you drove past. However, if you'd driven past the previous week when there was no charge you would have seen the same number of people on it. Simple fact is that mid-week during any term time the Pleasure Beach is quiet. Charge or no charge. Interesting you have not chose to comment on the fact that for the last two weekends it's been very busy indeed on the park. A sure fire sign that some people are prepared to look beyond the ridiculous levels of bad publicity the park have received over it's implementation. This thread too comes across as little more than a petty dig too. The figures relate to 2007 when Pleasure Beach was a free entry attraction, so have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the charge or the "bad press". By bad press I assume you mean the coverage in the Gazette ? It's been nothing short of pathetic. Other than a small article in the Daily Record I haven't seen much more either. The charge last year on the Winter Weekends was a success too, which is why they are introducing the same this year. And now on another thread when the poster (disc) didn't even mention Pleasure Beach in their thread you chose to ask if it was Pleasure Beach they had the problem with, rather than the cost of Blackpool itself. Has Amanda Thompson ran over your dog or something ????

Third doc, You really do hate anyone making comments about PB. I go on what I see and for your information I do drive by more than once a week, so I always take note. Personally I have nothing against the PB, as you can read in my other comments, I state they are in business as any other shop, hotel, company etc and they have to make profits. After their "Bad Press" at least they have removed the charges for the disabled people and carers which allows free entry to them. I know exactly why they bought these charges into the park and in all honestly I don't blame them for doing so, but I cannot comment on their reasons for it. I merely comment on what I read and see. We recently had a family of 30 guests all wanting the PB, the majority of them had children and in all fairness it would have cost them the earth to go in, hence they advoided it completely, and they choose Blackpool Tower instead. And finally NO Amanda Thompson has not run over my dog!!!

Phantom, Let me categorically assure you that I most certainly do not "hate" people talking about Pleasure Beach Blackpool. On this occasion I felt I had to speak up in their defence, however, as recently your posts have undeniably been very critical of them - and with all due respect without too much in terms of evidence to back up your points. I'm not entirely sure what benefit merely "driving by" will afford you in terms of sussing out how busy or otherwise it is. Bearing in mind that from the outside, all you're really going to see is the Pepsi Max !! Don't forget that on many occasions the Pepsi Max goes round "sandbagged" particularly at this time of year when the weather isn't quite so stable. For what it's worth I never even agreed with the introduction of wristbands, and I think it's been one of the biggest mistakes the park ever made. It's never going to happen, but I would love to see a return to the days of paying cash or ticket as people then could just duck in and out of the park when they pleased. It also encouraged the park to keep the rides much better maintained and operating than they do seem to do now (see I do criticise myself !!). I recently re-watched the BBC Series "Pleasure Beach" and the contrast between then and now couldn't really be greater. In those days if a ride stopped the park lost money. However, nowadays that's not so much the case as all the money is made at the front door. I hear and read stories all the time which hint that Amanda Thompson is almost "purposely" destroying the park in order to offload it, but I genuinely dont believe that to be the case. In my opinion the park has never looked better than what it does at the moment, and features like the Dancing Fountains due for 2009 will only enhance that. The £20 is a bitter pill to swallow for many. However, if you're riding then I dont think you will find better value anywhere else. Anyway, I'm not here to fall out. Just to offer advice where I can and continue to be a shameless promoter of the town... That said, if she hasn't run over your dog then she must have at least throttled your canary !

An interview with Amanda Thompson from 2007 can be found here, makes interesting reading.

Third doc, My response to referring as a tedious response was to kj5556, that was merely about the weather forecast!!!! If you feel the need to defend the PB, that is your prerogative. If I choose to be critical of PB then that's my prerogative too. I don't think I have been that critical, I actually did state that Amanda Thompson is in business to make profits!!! as is everyone else who owns businesses, otherwise why bother? Blackpool residents, hoteliers, shops have all been shocked by what the PB has introduced with the charge, more so because of this season being so poor if nothing else. Businesses are frightened that what they have done will drive tourists to another resort. In fairness I don't think that would be the case, but with times becoming harder for families with increases of fuel bills, job losses reaching an all time high in 17 years of course local businesses are going to be concerned. No disrespect to you third doc, I think what you post on here is all good, good advise, local attractions, helping fellow tourists, but you don't live here and see the everyday things happening in Blackpool. And NO Amanda never throttled my Canary........ I don't have one. We all have our own opinions and the right of free speech.

Third doc, The comment that has been removed by TA was not from me....... I don't see the need to make nasty comments.
