Hope someone can help, just looking for a good quality restaurant for my wife and I to enjoy a nice romantic style meal, doesn't have to be anywhere quiet but a nice smart interior would be great. All recomendations welcome, as we do like all cuisine as long as the quality is good. Would have to be a city centre location though - we will be staying at the Mercure Holland House if that helps (would like to walk). Thanks very much for all help and recommendations, they are appreciated.

I would probably opt for The Glass Boat, only a short hop from your hotel & it's really lovely - certainly what I would class as romantic, anyway! I have heard good things about Hotel du Vin (also short waking distance) but have not yet been myself. Looks quite sumptuous on website though.

I have eaten at the Hotel duVin, the food is absolutely yumtumptious, but the atmosphere is a bit odd.

San Marco's Italian on Baldwin St. used to be my favourite, mainly Italian but not spag bol or pizza, if you know what I mean. (Confess it's about 4 years since I was last there).

HDV doesn't look quite as cosy as Glass Boat, maybe it's the high ceiling or something. What do you mean by odd Roman? Just intrigued before I go there, might book for next month.

I also like San Marco very much - last went around 3 yrs ago, I think - it was slightly pricier than I imagined it would be, but very good food.

Glas boat looks very nice but had a terrible review in the evening post the other day and i have eaten there and it was poor standard.

The restaurant at brigstow which is also a Mercure Hotel nice.

Agree with recommendation for San Marcos nice italian but you will need to book.

The riverstation is lovely and has a good reputation which is near your hotel just on the other side of the water.

Dynasty for chinese food.

Oh dear, ate at Glass Boat just under a year ago & it was still really good. That's sad to hear.

I wouldn't take any notice of a report in the evening post. Amateur journalism at its worst.

Had a little trawl through recent reviews, all seem positive - only negative seems to be about small portions. Large portions + romantic night don't go together for me personally, but I think I will revisit soon just to be sure.
