How's the foliage near Mt Tremblant right now? |
|
I will arrive in Montreal on Thursday afternoon and while I want to see the city as well, my primary focus is the foliage. Is Mt Tremblant still worth visiting for the colours? bonjourquebec.com/ca-en/symphoniecouleurs0.h… says it's near peak but in other forums I heard it's past prime already. If it's still worth going there, do you recommend I go on the gondola? If it's not worth going all the way there, how about stopping at St-Sauveur or St Jerome? If I'm late for these places too, what would be my best bet for great colours? I will drive to Quebec City eventually, so location is not a problem :-) Thanks! |

TA members who live in or near Tremblant likely will post back with the latest info on colors. In the meantime, you can at least get some idea from the live webcams at Tremblant. Go to www.tremblant.ca, select English, click on "Village", then go to Photos, Webcams and Videos on the pull down menu. Select webcams and focus on foliage. Hint: in the upper right hand corner, there is a magnification control so you can focus on a particular area up close. If you go and the gondola is operating, it always is worth a trip to the summit. Sunny days are best so that you can appreciate the expansive views, even though the mountain isn't all that high.

Hi Worldcitizen, I haven't driven up to Tremblant recently, but I am posting this based on the years that I lived in the area... Today is the 8th of October, and we've had a relatively dry and warm Fall (here in Ottawa our first frost was last night)... so based on weather history, the leaves should be at their prime right now. (Typically the best time is the first week of October). Things are usually good thru Thanksgiving Weekend (I've spent many an afternoon taking the gondola up the mountain on Thanksgiving Day). So you should be absolutely fine with a visit this week. The leaves greatest enemy is rain, things deteriorate very quickly with rain, fortunately we haven't had much this Fall as of yet. Hopefully, one of the few posters who reside in Tremblant year-round will be able to comment. Cheers! Wine-4-2

Hi Worldcitizen, I did a little bit of research on your behalf... here is the info that the Weather Network is providing (and they have a weather station in the area... so I would imagine it to be fairly accurate). For Weather Report see www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/CAQC0360 For Foliage Update see www.theweathernetwork.com/fallcolour/qc They are stating that as of October 3rd the Laurentians were at the following stages: Oka to St Jerome = Mid-Point 50% St Sauveur to Mont Tremblant = Near Peak 75% Cheers! Indeed, during my visit last weekend (Oct. 4 & 5), the colours were still nice in Tremblant, and I expect will still be now. However, I found, and I expect is the case now, the nicer colours are a bit farther south (St-Sauveur to Val-David I would say). Apparently, from what I've read, the colours are a bit in advance this year. You will be able to see for yourself as you drive up and decide what pleases you the most. I am sure there is still plenty of nice colour, and you will be able to stop where you please along the way to Mont Tremblant to enjoy them. Enjoy your trip!

World Citizen Just to avoid confusion, Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October; American Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November. This week and week-end would still be a good time to visit Tremblant.
|
I did think "wow, the leaves last until late November" :-) Thanks for the clarification. OK, so Friday morning I will wake up early and drive up to Mt Tremblant and hope for the best. I'm sure I will see amazing colours either way, especially since I'm used to the US Pacific Northwest where there's very little foliage. I will be sure to post pictures after I'm back. Thanks all!

Worldcitizen- Well, tomorrow is the big day. Would you be kind enough to give us a brief trip report afterward? Also, as you drive around, remember the influence of micro-climates and also different tree species. It makes for pleasant surprises, sometimes just around the next curve.
|
TO TYLERAB, Thanks for asking for the Trip Report, I'm sure it will help others. And you are so right about all the various things that come into play with the folliage: Latitude, Elevation, Weather, Tree Species (even from one type of Maple to the next)... the wonder of the beauty is such a complex set of variables. Cheers! Wine-4-2

Thanks Wine-4-2. I wish that I were there this year.

This may be too late for Worldcitizen, but I have posted a picture on my TripAdvisor profile. The picture was from last Sunday and gives a good idea of how it was in the area a few days ago.
