I could use some help as I have never been to Quebec City and want to arrange a 2009 winter carnival trip for my wife and I. I am considering staying at Auberge Saint-Antoine will that be to far from the Cranival events? Will we have plenty of restaurant options in walking distance? What modes of transportation is available in the city (do I need a rental car?) Lastly what is the dress code in most restaurants during carnival? Sorry I have a bunch more questions but this sounds like a good start. I am extremely grateful for any answers and additional feedback and suggections

Hi Davempa11,

Auberge St-Antoine is not really far from the Carnival events even though you would be next to the action by staying at Chateau Laurier or at the Lowes then you would be within walking distance from the Ice Castle. Auberge St-Antoine is fine but you would

need a car or use public transportation to get to most of the events.

I would not advise to drive. Quebec is hilly and we usually have a lot of snow in the Winter. Using city busses would be best since you won't be that far from the action.

You have a wide choice of restaurants no matter if you elect to stay at the Auberge or somewhere in the upper town (Chateu Laurier, Lowes). Near the Auberge you have Café du Monde and Laurie Raphaël on Dalhousie Street, Cochon Dingue on Champlain blvd. to name a few and in the upper town you have so many good restaurants on Grande-Allé and St. Louis street

it would be too long to make up a list unless you are more specific about the type of restaurants you'd like to visit.

Here are two links on the 2009 Quebec Winter Carnival. You will learn more about the upcoming carnival activities.
