Sports Bar recommendation |
|
Hi, I am going to Montreal and am looking for a good sports bar. I have been recommended the following: La Cage aux Sports, Champs bar and McLeans Pub. Has anyone been to any of these? Or, do you have a better one to recommend? We are looking to be near St Catherine area and want a place with beer/food/darts or pool. Thanks. |

Champs is the best. Cage au sport must have the worst food, particulary the fries, they are soooo gross! You could also consider Baton Rouge on the la Montagne. I would go there any day before la Cage. McLeans is pretty dark and I feel cramped their, but the grup is much better than la Cage.

Yep. Cage aux sports' food is pretty rotten. I like good pub style food and their's is terrible. The burger reminded me of Burger King. Good cold beer but foul food. I know it's not technically a sports bar but the Irish Embassy on Bishop has very good pub food and plenty of flat screen TVs for sports. http://www.irish-embassy.com/index-e.htm I would also second Baton Rouge and add any of Le 3 Brasseurs to the list.

Thanks for your suggestions

If you don't mind getting away from St-Catherine, the Skratch in Lasalle or Brossard has good food; pool and darts and large screens everywhere... It has all you want, but isn't very close (a couple of subway stations or 15-20$ cab ride).

La cage aux sports definetly has the worst food of any that you mentioned, however during Hockey season it is the most popular sports bar. Champs is new so I can't comment but I have heard only good things. Skratch also has terrible food, unless you like pigeon wings. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to the south shore but if you are there it is a good sports bar and I know they have pool, darts etc... If you are going for the beer and atmosphere I would suggest La cage but if you want to eat then Champs. another alternative is McKibbins which had a pool table in the absement last time I went, they often have live bands, and the food is really good.

Champs is new? I have been there in the 1990s....

oops. I was talking about the Champ's on St-Catherine which is new, not the one on St-Laurent.
