Hi there,

I'll be heading to the Delta Toronto East hotel (in the Scarborough/York/Markham area, from what I can gather) in November. Looking for some restaurant options that will be entertaining for kids (maybe some pool tables, etc.) but with good enough food to please the parents.

Also wondering about the Rainforest Cafe at the Yorkdale Mall -- is it so loud that you can't hear anyone talking to you?

In my Google search, came across Shoeless Joe's and Three Monkeys. Any advice on those would be appreciated.

Thanks!

MJ

The Delta Toronto East is on the 401, at Kennedy Rd., just down the road from the Scarborough Town Centre. That's a huge mall where you'll find a Jack Astor's and Milestone's as well as the usual array of fast food. There's also a large Famous Players movie theatre.

Here's a Google Map showing the hotel and a bunch of nearby restaurants, including a Casey's and Mr. Greek just across the highway:

As far as non-chain places go, the area directly north of the hotel is very good for Chinese. I'm afraid I can't recommend any specific place, but I'm sure that the hotel staff could direct you.

Hi MJM1331;

For a unique place to eat, and really cool for a hockey team, I would suggest Wayne Gretzky’s restaurant. The only drawback is that it is located downtown.

Ditto on the Gretzky suggestion. It has so much memorabilia and the foods good too. You could plan it around a trip to the hockey hall of fame...just an idea

i think you should post where you are staying so that we can let you know the best place to go. the rainforest is a rip off and so are most chain restaurants. so many better choices.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had seen the Gretzky restaurant when I was surfing around, but had discounted it because of the location. If it's really worth it, though, it might be worth the trip into town. I think it's a 20-minute drive from the hotel, correct?

Does everyone share the same opinion about the Rainforest Cafe?

Any opinons on Shoeless Joe's and Three Monkeys? Are they both chain restaurants?

MJ

Hi MJ;

I would skip the Rainforest.

As for Shoeless Joe’s, Jack Astor’s, Milestone’s…they are all very similar chain restaurants.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is approx. 1 mile / 1.6 km east of Gretzky’s. Both would be about a 30 minute drive from your hotel without traffic delays.

FYI…Rush hour traffic in Toronto is approx. 6 am to 10 am & 3 pm to 7 pm.

Best Regards

Shoeless Joe's is a chain, and I agree with RescueTeam, basically interchangeable with Jack Astor's, Milestones, and virtually any other "casual" chain.

Three Monkeys didn't ring any bells, so I looked it up:

restaurantica.com/on/…

Sounds like the same kind of menu as the chains.

Unfortunately, in Scarborough, it's a choice of the usual chains or ethnic. You can find great Chinese, Sri Lankan, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, etc., but I don't know how the hockey team would respond to dim sum (maybe worth a shot, though).

FlyinMom, time for you to weigh in on this one.

You could drive up to Johnny's Burgers at Vic Park and Sheppard and eat in the parking lot if the weather's nice. It'll be reasonably priced too.

Sorry, I missed that you said "November". Johnny's is a take out with picnic tables.
