I'm going in November so I'm curious to hear the answer, too. My cousin went and said it was fantastic :-)

FANTASTIC! Saw it last night - the stage/set changes are very impressive and all the singers/actors were great. If you like or love the Sound of Music, you'll love this production. Andrew Lloyd Weber did sneak in a couple new songs you'll find amusing due to the odd lyrics - e.g. in "How can love survive?" equity and capital gains are sung, and in another "No way to stop it" there was some line about a herring meeting a shark, but all the songs from the movie are also there. Twice a week the Maria is played by Janna Polzin and she was the performer last night - did a superb job with the acting as well as the singing (as good if not better than Julie Andrews). Burke Moses as the Captain is definately more muscular/imposing than Chrisopher Plummer was, but does soften up at the end and most importantly, there seems to be a spark between the two main characters that makes the love story work. All in all, am tempted to see it again and rank it amongst the best musical stage productions I've seen over the past 20 years.

I saw the production last month, and agree that it was fantastic, my favourite ever (and I do go to them all!) I loved the set!!!! Interestingly enough, I also went when the alternate Maria, Janna Polzin, was playing the main role. She was spectacular, and I can't imagine the other Maria being any better. Possibly as good, but it's not possible she could be any better, this Janna Polzin WAS "Maria". Loved it. The children were great. Everything about it was great. Enjoy!!!!

It is definitely worth seeing, and generally a good production. I have been going to the theatre as a Toronto Mirvish productions subscriber for close to 30 years and would consider this musical to be one of their better productions though I'm not absolutely raving about it. I thought that Maria, played by the contest winner Elicia Mackenzie, had a good voice and acted well, but, in my opinion, lacked that stage presence of more experienced actors. Her voice, while technically good, didn't project well and hold the audience. On the other hand, Noella Huet, who played the mother Abbess was worth the price of admission. Her limited role was exceptionally played and her voice absolutely amazing.
