We've got a guys roadtrip to Toronto in early September. We're in our early 30s and single. We're driving from Chicago to Toronto and considering breaking the trip up with an evening stop along the way. I'm looking for any recommendations of interesting spots between Detroit and Toronto for our demographic. We'll be traveling on Thursday.

Thanks in advance.

Hi cwa123654,

The stretch of the 401 between Windsor and Toronto goes thru some of Canada's most fertile farmland... most famously Leamington which is the HEINZ Ketchup capital. LOL

Unfortunately that is about it... miles and miles of farmland.

The only points that you might considering overnighting at are the small cities of London (about 1/2 way - about 2 hours out of Windsor), or Kitchener-Waterloo about 3-1/2 hours out of Windsor). Both are University Towns.

Perhaps someone more familiar with those cities could tell you what to expect. I seem to recall they both have a good selection of chain motels and restaurants.

Too bad you're not coming thru in October though, because Kitchener-Waterloo would be in the middle of the biggest Octoberfest outside of Munich.

Cheers!

I'm not terribly familiar with Stratford, but Waterloo is a college town with a fair amount of nightlife.

Just outside of Waterloo is St.Jacobs, which is the heart of mennonite country - lots of arts and crafts, so you guys may not be interested.

About 40 minutes north of Waterloo is Elora, which is a cute little town that's famous for its gorge. It's worth a look if you stop in Waterloo for the night.

I've done this trip several times. I just drive right thru. Nothing really interesting to see.

Agreed. It's not exactly guys' road-trip territory. Windsor has some notorious peeler bars serving the cross-border crowd, but beyond that, it's strictly farmland and a few rather dull towns. From the sounds of it, I doubt that you gentlemen would get excited about a detour through Mennonite country.

Thursday is a big night that all the students go out, London's downtown will be very busy with lots of people if want to break up the drive.

You'd be better off driving through......but if you did decide to stop in London there's a new over 25 club that might appeal to you. Much more to do in Toronto though!
