It's TIFF time and I thought i would make a link for those who are going to the film festival. I'll try to post useful links for 1st timers and other tidbits that I can think of. This will be my 5th year, and the list looks great from an international standpoint(non-American).

Here are a few useful links for those looking to research the festival and info on films and hotels in the area.

www.tiff08.ca (The main site of course)

http://1stthursday.blogspot.com/

(In my opinion, the best website out there for the film festival. The site creator has reviews of each festival theater, tips on avoiding long lines, ways to get tickets to screenings that are close to being sold out, and most importantly a list of each program and the films in each program.)

www.twitchfilm.net

(This is a great website for news related to the festival, and films in the horror, sci-fi and arthouse/foregin film genres.)

Hope this helps, and maybe we can get some good discussion going about films everyone is looking forward to.

Hi Grease,

It's that time again :))) I remember you from last year! I usually buy a Gala pass but they stopped having them this year so Sat morning I'll be trying to get whatever I can.

I also find this site good because it has a forum where people are buying and selling tickets.

http://www.tiffreviews.com/2008/film-list Not much activity on it yet.

Hey, it's good to see you back on the boards. That is a bummer about them taking out the Gala pass, I didn't know about that. I am aggravated that they took the Elgin out of the lottery system this year though. I hope they don't turn that into an event where all of the corporate sponsors get the seats on the floor, and us little people have to sit up in the balcony.

Good luck on Saturday. What movies are you going to try for?

Here are a few from my wishlist....

The Burning Plain(Charlize Theron, Kim Bassinger)

Happy-Go-Lucky

Appaloosa(Western with Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris)

Rachel Getting Married(Anne Hathaway looks impressive from the trailer)

A Film with Me in It(Irish Black Comedy)

Real Time(Hitman movie starring Dennis Quaid)

Nothing But the Truth(Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, David Schwimmer)

Those all sound good, Grease. So far I've only looked at the Gala list and these are the ones I'm going to try for (me and everyone else that is)

Burn After Reading (not likely to get)

The Duchess

The Lucky Ones

Nothing But the Truth

The Other Man

Pride and Glory

Rachel Getting Married

Singh is Kinng.

Last year I ended up being fairly lucky getting the ones I wanted eventually.

I really want to see Burn After Reading, but it is released in the States the next weekend, so I figure I could wait. I've never lined up in front of Roy Thomson Hall to star gaze, but for that premiere I might try it for the 1st time.

Let me know what you end up getting, and good luck tomorrow!!

Yeah I got in pretty easy too. The phone lines were a disaster of course, so I gave up and the website was up a few minutes late.

I got tickets to "The Other Man" and the rest of the movies I'm doing through the lottery.

I thought Burn After Reading would be a tough ticket.

So did you get tickets to any other ones aside from Secret Life of Bees?

Glad to hear it worked out easy for you.

Grease, I also got Rachel Getting Married, The Duchess, Nothing but the Truth, Pride & Glory, Singh is Kinng, and The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond.

I wanted to see The Other Man but I just can't do 2 movies in one night anymore. :(

Burn After Reading sold out fast, good job its on general release about one week later.

There's quite a lot of good stuff still to come, The Brothers Bloom and Synecdoche New York look good.

There's some good stuff in the line up. I want to check out Gomorrah, Adoration, The Wrestler, Me & Orson Welles and Religolous

Also, I'm glad there will be a chance to see some of the Gala films in other venues (presumably for a bit less than $40 per ticket)

I'm planning to que up at the box office on the 3rd. Can any long-time Festival goers advise how far in advance of 7am to start queing?
