Staying next week with family, including a 3 and 5 yr old. Which hotel would you choose? Both have their own benefits, westin - waterfront, close to island ferry, sheraton - central location. We will be staying two nights, with plans to the island, a bluejay game, and basic sightseeing.

Any advice on the nicer hotel or benefits of one over the other would be appreciated.

Because you're going to a Jays game and Toronto Island, I'd recommend the Westin. You can comfortably walk to both. Westin offers some great views - both of water and the city.

As you may have read in other posts, the elevated highway just north of the Westin tends to isolate (psycologically, more than anythng), the harbourfront from the rest of the city. Sheraton Ctr is more central to downtown.

I suspect you've seen that TA reviews rank Westin Harbour Castle as #14 of 98 Toronto hotels tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g155019-d183090… and Sheraton as #11 tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g155019-d183085… Both really are solid choices.

If you were doing a lotta clubbing, I'd say Sheraton, but since most of your activities will be centred on the watrefront, and you're only here for 2 nights, go Westin; you'll love the views, and you're in walking distance of where you want to be.

I've stayed at the Harbour Castle many times. I like the hotel. I always think of it as a great summer hotel since it is so close to Harbourfront and the ferry. Given the things you want to do, I think it is a great choice.

Just an FYI - there is a Sobey's Supermarket at Queen's Quay which is quite close. With the age of your kids, you might want to buy some snacks etc.

Great, thanks for all the advice. I went ahead and booked the Westin, got a great $94 rate with Hotwire.

Wow!! That is a great rate. when are you actually going?

Did you actually know you were going to get the HC on Hotwire before you gave them you credit card number. I thought they just give areas star levels and prices.

I have used Priceline several times but not Hotwire.

I specifically want to stay at the HC at the end of August, so figured I would have to book directly with the hotel.

Enjoy

I agree with your choice of the Westin Harbour Castle. You sure got an excellent deal for the hotel. The hotel does have a lot to offer ...and the view of the water from the rooms is quite pretty.

There is a ton of great information on this website as far as attractions to see in Toronto with your family.

I noticed you are a relatively new poster, so just follow the links on the left side of this page under the Things to Do heading.

Also, here is a link that has some good ideas for sightseeing in Toronto.

If you get a chance, try and post when you get back home to let us know how the hotel was, and anything else about visiting Toronto, you would like to share with us.

Have a great time.
