My husband and I are coming for 10 days Sept 15th to St. John's and celebrating our anniversary. Anyone have suggestions as to what we should not miss doing?? Good restaurants? Sightseeing? Good B&B's?? |

As has been said many times in this forum, don't try to pack in too much driving if you can help it. With 10 days, unless you "must see" Gros Morne, and have no expectation that you will ever be back to NF, you will be wasting too much time driving and not seeing and experiencing enough. I would recommend limiting yourself to going no further away from St. John's than Trinity/Bonavista. With that in mind, here are some of the things I enjoyed most on my trip: Whale/bird watching boat tour of Witless Bay - wildlife galore Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve - spectacular scenery and bird watching Signal Hill - great history, scenery and views of St. John's Rodrigues winery - tasty berry wines, try especially the partridgeberry/blueberry blend Trinity - a beautiful little town Bonavista - fantastic historical town, see especially the Ryan Premises Historical Site, which was one of the best historical museums I've been to anywhere, focusing on the history of commercial fishing in NF. I am sure that you will be able to get plenty of additional suggestions, but those are the ones I consider "don't miss".

Unfortunately the whales and seabirds are mostly gone from Witless Bay by September. Cape St. Marys is still most impressive in September as are areas around Trinity and Cape Bonavista as well as those mentioned above. Jerry

to the last post.. "Shanghai (753-2378) Chinese. Truly exquisite - 210 Water" The Shanghai does have very cheap, & fast lunch specials that are only 10-13 dollars every week day. There is a Lot to chose from, big, hot dishes. Plus wonderful decor, but yes.. the supper menu can be more expensive as was listed by the other poster. The prices listed above ... I hope are directly from a menu, because when I personally think about all of these restaurants, I have spent a few dollars more than this on the cheapest things. So, perhaps think of the added tax, plus a tip if you want to leave one. Just as a side note ... other than that, the bloke did made a good extensive post including almost every single restaurant downtown as of Sept 2008. - lingo
