Pet Friendly hotels |

We are going on motorcycle in Aug of 08 and always bring our little dog along. Is there a problem of finding pet friendly hotels on the island? We also would like to do some camping but are the nights cold??? Thanks for any info you can provide. Johnnie |

HiJohnnie; From your location (ND=North Dakota) I presume you’ll be visiting NFLD from the US. Please, make sure that your dog has had all its shots, and bring proof of them with you. Canada Border Services Agency (Customs) may ask for the paperwork, or deny entry to the animal. A dog tag is NOT sufficient proof of vaccination. cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/…P021 Animals entering Canada fall under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. I would suggest reading their FAQ page; inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/import… Best Regards

Thanks for the info. We have traveled before in Canada with the dog since we live so close to the border. Any chance you have ever camped on Newfoundland?? Just wondering how cool the nights get? We like to take camp gear along so we have the option if we find nice camp sites. Johnnie

Weather in Newfoundland is very hit and miss any time of year...but camping in August shouldn't be a problem. They had a slow start to the summer this year but my mother tells me its full on summer now (she said it felt like 40 celcius the other day) and she's on the west coast. Just bring a warm sleeping bag for any cool nights. As for pet-friendly hotels/motels, that shouldn't be a problem. A lot of the large chain hotels now accept pets. And quite a few independents will let you stay with pets too. Have you checked out any of the pet travel sites? travelpets.com/content/hotels/countries.asp… pettravel.com/destinations/Newfoundland_CAN.… www.petswelcome.com/cgi-bin/provframe.pl http://petfriendly.ca/rentals.php?id=9 The only thing you may find difficult is the ferry crossing - they ask that you place your dog in a kennel (which is open and you can visit throughout the crossing)...but I know I'd have a hard time putting my 2 little babies in a strange metal cage. A lot of people leave their pets in the car, but you don't have that option, and I think that would be even worse anyway since you really can't go down there regularly to check up on them.

Just FYI, Marine Atlantic no longer allows pets to remain in cars during the crossing.
