We are spending a few days in Vancouver w/ the kids next week and have some free time for just my wife and I to explore the city sans kids during the day. We enjoy walking around and seeing the interesting areas of the city, grabbing lunch at a cafe and a bit of shopping.

In reading the posts, seems like Yaletown fits the bill, but wondering if there are other suggestions for neighborhoods/areas to check out. Thx, TWK7

You would probably enjoy getting over to Granville Island. There are little harbour ferries that transport people from near the Aquatic Center at Thurlow and Beach Ave over to the Island (Aquabus and False Creek Ferries that operate all along False Creek) Well worth a round trip ride. A walk along the whole of English Bay is also a pleasure.

The shoreline in Yaletown is pretty stunning, and you can catch a mini-ferry across to Grandville Island. They are not cheap, but it's so nice to be out on the water when the weather is nice. You can walk from Grandville Island along a pedestrian footpath that takes you to Vanier Park where you will find the Vancouver Museum and the Maritime Museum, both interesting and worth a visit. You might also really enjoy China Town and a visit to the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden.

Thanks to all, we just got back from a great trip and marvelous weather. We ended up just walking around Robson Street area as our "free" time was on Sunday when most of the shops in Yaletown were closed (probably should have mentioned it was Sunday we were going).

The kids had a great time at Grouse Mountain/Capillano Bridge and we did a 1/2 day of fishing that was fun.

We also took everyone to Granville Island and had dinner at the Sandbar, wh/ I would definitely recommend to all. We also had dinner at Salam Bombay wh/ was fantastic Indian food.
