I am a foreigner traveling with my family to US west coast. I will driving from San Diego to Phoenix in june 2008. First time in US west side and first time to mexico. Not looking for anything partikular in Mexico. Just want to have a look once we are so close to it. Any idea how easy/difficult for a foreigner with family cross the border.

Are you planning to cross the border at San Diego and experience coastal Baja? We live, more than half the year, in Rosarito Beach, which is 30 minutes south of the border at the San Diego crossing. If you are interested in information about Rosarito Beach, I would be happy to help.

If you cross at Mexicali, it will already be very hot by June, as will Phoenix (which is where we live when we aren't living in Rosarito Beach). If you want to experience any of Mexico, I, of course, recommend visiting Rosarito Beach.

Difficulty crossing the border: Getting into Mexico requires nothing but going across the border, no checks, nothing. Getting back into the U.S. requires only the documents you already have for your visit. You would not need even a tourist visa to cross into Baja (by San Diego), but I don't know if anything is recommended at Mexicali. I feel sure no one would check at Mexicali, but it might technically be required.

Thanks to your reply.

It is not important for me to cross the border at Tijuana or Mexicali. Because I heard Tijuana is hot spot for "girls". And the police will hassle people with US license car. I try to affoid crossing there, because I am not looking for that. Correct me if I am wrong. I have never been in the west coast.

Thanks again.

I speak fluent english and spanish, so language is not a problem for me.
