starting to panic, the mexican government siezes great land claiming enviromental concerns, i don't buy it, the mexican government only does land grabs for dollars, I see a golf course and big AI's in the future for the area south of the ruins. I guess it was only a matter of time. Sure gonna miss old tulum!

Anyone know any good beach towns south of the Sian Kaan???

The big AIs , condos, golf courses are on their way but not on this siezed land---but in a huge new development. Unfortunately, had to happen. It will happen to the entire coast , sooner or later.

The national park was established years ago, I think in 1981, but land within the park was also sold to private landowners. There has been an ongoing legal battle for years to determine whether the hotels built within the park would be allowed to continue business or not, due to their location within the park, the proximity to the ancient ruins, the natural surroundings and the impact that such activities could have on them.

The government seizure was without warning, but this was not sudden, it's a problem that's been around for years.

The real motivation may be different, but so far this is the official version.
