I have been reading about the ability to upgrade and am hoping we can figure that out when we arrive (some people do some people don't) but any tips would be great.

Could anyone recommend a private shuttle company to head down to our resort??

I have been reading that many people use this service rather than the prearranged buses due to the distance and also amount of stops. After flying for almost 6 hours from Calgary I am thinking my body won't appreciate another 2-2.5 (as opposed to about 1.5 hours via shuttle) on the road.

Any comments about what to absolutley see/do VS things you wouldn't??

We are looking forward to snorkeling, seeing the ruins and enjoying the sun...

Anyone been there in September past years???? Weather concerns during hurricane season???

All Comments would be most welcome, Cheers Rosemarie

we were there last Oct. Weather was a little unsettled for 2 days but it wasn't a washout - we just had to go indoors for a couple of hours. It was WARM.

Food was FAB ala cartes & buffet. Dress code for the fancy ala cartes is enforced. I saw people turned away for shorts in the evening.

Bring water shoes if you are going into the ocean or just walking the beach I found it rocky. Snorkelling from the beach was about 100 yards out a long swim for novices. Better to take a cab/collectivo to akumal beach and jump in there with your snorkel gear to see the turtles.

in regard to an upgrade/perks we joined a travel thing (like a starwoods that dreams belongs to) called iprefer dot com. free sign up got us an upgrade for free at check in. e-mail javier the concierge the week before you go if you do get an iprefer number it MAY help.

have fun!
