Just back from Tulum -

As for accomodations, Mezzanine was great, but it looks like they just got caught up in the Gov't fight regarding that stretch of beach. We also stayed at Azulik and I would not recommend. Too much money for that type of accomodation. Death from a thousand cuts.

As for food, El Tabano on the beach road across from Maya Tulum was fantastic. Chef from Barcelona via San Francisco and her cooking was fantastic. Dos Ciebas was good too. In town, Oasis was great. It is 5 blocks away from the main drag (away from the ocean). Harder to find, but worth it.

I'm looking forward to my next trip back.

Cheers - Tim

Thanks for the quick report. Sounds like you had to leave Mezzanine and move onto Azulik?

Good to know about El Tabano...since I despise tabanos, I probably never would have thought to step in and check it out...now I'll give it a chance.

I tried Tabano a few weeks ago...it was great! They serve really healthy food. They do not have alcohol either. I really really liked the Jalapeños Rellenos...wow!!!! They also have gespacho type soups, salads and original sauces. The owners are super sweet...
