Is Tulum a lot of walking? |
|
Is Tulum and Xel Ha a lot of walking? or can I wear sandals? Or do i need tennis shoes? |
|
Oh yes it is a lot of walking. I wore Keds without socks (ones that were already broke in) and they rubbed blisters on both heels. Ended up having to wear them as slip ons. I would wear running shoes and maybe bring a package of blister bandaids with you and apply before the excursion just to be on the safe side. They are both gorgeous places and you're going to have a great time. Tip: wear your swim suit under clothes when you go to Tulum. You'll want to take advantage of their gorgeous beach and there are no restrooms for changing. Bring spending money too. They have some neat shops if you know how to haggle with prices.

I dislike tennis shoes as I wear them every day on the TM. I have croc sandles not the clogs,. Are open toed walking sandles ok to wear at the Tulum or Chichen itza?

Tulum is a lot of walking on a very long dirt road. They don't just drop you off right at the ruins. To protect them, the drop off is quite far away and you walk in. They do offer a trolley ride closer to the entrance for an extra fee. Even with that, the walk is hard. It is incredibly hot and humid so not wearing sock and sneakers is going to give you blisters. There are very few trees for shade and if you go swimming be sure to change into dry clothes because walking back out in damp things is going to leave a nasty rash. All that being said, it is worth it.
