Couple Questions about Riu Palace Las Americas? |
|
Have been researching myself to death.. and need some help from you guys who have been there? Husband and I are 26/23. Never got a Honeymoon so we are taking one on our 5th Anniversary. Have been looking at Riu Cancun and RPLA. How is the beach at either? We are beach bums and I would really like a hotel with a nice beach. Some of the ones I have seen barely have one? Also the rooms. We would really like a nice room. Have been looking for one with a jacuzzi, but from what I have seen neither have them? Am I right? Would really like to stay at the Sun but would like to find something a bit more cost effective so I will have money to do other things if I wish. Would really appreciate your opinions! |

We have stayed at RPLA, but not at RC. I believe there are rooms at both resorts that do have jacuzzis. They are not the standard rooms though. If you are looking for nicer rooms, RPLA has nicer rooms. They are larger with a step down into the sirring area. Most of the rooms have an ocean view with a balcony. RC does have a larger beach, but it is not a big deal to walk over from RPLA. I sent you a PM about the Sun.

The RPLA is much nicer than the Riu Cancun. Better food, service, top shelf liquor and just a rich atmosphere. Riu Cancun has a nicer beach (keep in mind, it's a 10 second walk up the beach from RPLA) that you can use. RC seems like a much younger party crowd, food is not as good MUCH LOUDER.. Sun Palace is adults only, service was good, food and drinks were just o.k. in my opinion. Beach there was awesome but very wavy. another 146 more days for us again....

I'm going to chime in here with Penny and Selluacaddy - I've also stayed at both. Loved both. I really have to say, if this is your honemoon, and you are comfortable doing a bit of a splurge, Sun Palace would be my choice. All the rooms will have a jacuzzi (something I love) and overall the rooms are much nicer. Great amenities, shower, comfy bed, etc. You also mentioned that you are beach bums. The Sun's beach is much bigger and nice. I was slightly disappointed in the Sun's lunch buffet. The buffet at the RPLA was so much bigger and better. The a la cartes at Sun were better, however, than the RPLA. Have you looked in to buying a week at the Sun from a Palace member? We just did that for our Dec trip (granted we found cheap airfare) and saved ourselves $1000 over what Apple and Funjet wanted. We are staying at the Cancun Palace for less than we could have done the RPLA. Having said all that, I totally love the RPLA and have actually broken our rule of never going back to the same resort twice when we returned there this last Dec. I just think for a honeymoon, and if you are comfortable with the price tag, I'd suggest the Sun. It seems to have what you are looking for.

What do you mean "buy a week from a member?" We've stayed at Palace resorts 6 times. Thanks.
|
Palace Resorts sell membership weeks to their resorts. Many members buy tons of weeks to get the extra perks thrown in that they want. Since they have more weeks than they can use use they sell these weeks to others to use. There are lots of people on ebay and here on TA that do this. When you buy a week from a member, you pay the member a fee (usually around $100) for their week. Then you pay the all inclusive fee directly to Palace Resorts. The all inclusive fees vary depending on the resort and the time of year you are traveling. When using a member's week you are entitled to any perks that member may have. All members receive free round trip airport transfers, manicure, pedicure, massage, discounts on golf, gift shop & at the spa. Some members also have free golf as part of their membership. You'll pay extra to buy one of those member weeks. If you have any more questions about buying member weeks or Palace Resorts feel free to PM me.

Thanks pennypenguin. This sounds like a good deal. We've just never heard of it. Wonder how much a membership costs. I love Sun and Moon Palaces.
|
You can buy a membership directly from Palace Resorts starting at about $5,000 all the way to about $50,000. We bought our initial membership on ebay for $100, and upgraded on a trip to Cancun to include some golf & spa perks.

Thank you guys so much for your input. I knew there was someone out there who could help. Being that we have never really traveled (Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach are about it) we are really excited. I just was worrying myself to death about which place would be best for us. Didn't want to be disappointed. Seems like Sun Palace is going to be the best choice since this is practically our honeymoon. It just came 5 years late! haha. I am def. going to look into buying a week from a member. I don't care to pay the extra money for a nicer place but if you can get a better deal that way than Apple or whoever then that sounds great. How do I go about finding someone on TA? I will look on Ebay as well.
|
If you haven't gotten any PM on the subject from owners, I suggest you just put up a post saying you are interested. Believe me, you will then get a bunch of offers!! That's how it worked for me, I'm glad I went that route. I enjoy the Palace resorts, and found deals to be able to go twice already. However, I usually find them just too pricey for us, so this was a great option!
|
Just stay at RPLA for a better hotel and you have access to both resorts. I stayed at RPLA for the first few days then ended up at Riu Cancun the last few days. It's a lot more lively next door and in my honest opinion, the breakfast/lunch buffet is better at Riu Cancun. The beach is also a lot bigger over there.
