We are leaving tomorrow and my husband would like to take some of his favorite brands of cigars to enjoy while there. He is afraid he cannot bring them into Cancun. Is that true or is it only that he cannot bring some home with him???

He can bring Cuban's home with him as long as he doesn't get caught. Kind of like speeding! Don't forget to come back and tell us all about your trip!

You can bring back $100 worth of Cubans, more than that, they will charge you.

There are a number of limitations on what goods you can bring with you into Mexico. One of them is tobacco products, with a maximum of 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars being permitted, with any excess subject to confiscation (or theoretically import duties at a very high rate). Consequently, if he's a really really heavy smoker....

Good site to go to if you have any questions: www.customs.gov

You can bring back 100 cigars but none made in Cuba. According to the US Embargo of 1960, products of Cuba are prohibited from entering into the US.

This also pertains to anyone making a connection into the US. For example, if you live in Canada (where there is no embargo) and you are connecting flights within the US, you still may not pass any products of Cuba through the US. Regardless if you live in a country with no embargo in place.

Personally, I don't see what the embargo has accomplished in its 44 year old existence except hurt the citizens of Cuba and not allow US citizens to enjoy a fine Cuban cigar with Crown Royal!

No, REALLY, you can bring them back. We've done it and had our bags opened and checked at the airport. We were told $100 worth of Cubans were ok, any more than that they would have confiscated. As long as you list them on the sheet they give you for re-entering the US, it's ok.....at least it was 6 months ago.

I stand corrected. Wow, I had not seen that or heard anything about that. Glad to find out though. Thanks for the update.
