Thanks

For pre teens Playa Madera in Zihuatanejo is bes & also where the local kids boogie.

In Ixtapa Playa Linda is popular but will be to rough for pre teens & even older novices.

PS La Ropa is not a good place to boogie.

When we were there in June, rather nice waves were breaking on La Ropa. great for kids 12 and under.

Some of the breakers were 3 to 4 feet but nearly

constant at 2 feet. Very little undertow.

Kids (locals) were surfing near Las Gatas beach at the inlet on 4 foot waves but it was too close to the rocks for me!!

By the way, the beaches at Ixtapa were black flagged

when we were there because the surf was too dangerous. many turistas unhappy!

have fun be safe!!

That was HIGHLY unusual for La Ropa & Las Gatas(both very calm most of the time)and STANDARD procedure for Ixtapa.

the four men in our group had a great time boogie boarding in Ixtapa right on the main beach, Playa del Palmar in front of our hotel, the Dorado Pacifico. It was very rough surf but they knew what they were doing- NOT for little kids.

I have seen people boogie boarding at Playa Linda, to the right of where you catch the water taxi to Isla Ixtapa. Also Troncones I think has a good boogie boarding beach.

None at Madera or La Ropa when we were there, far too flat.

Depends on the time of year.

In the Summer and into the Fall, the waves at the north end of La Ropa are big enough to be fun and not so big as to be scary...and best of all, no undertow! We like to body board right in front of Paty's.

I think Troncones is fun and challenging, but the undertow and rips can be dangerous. So always go out with someone else.

Madera beach generally has bigger waves, but in the rainy season, I am wary of the pollution in the run-off from the river.

I have also enjoyed Barra de Potosi.

We are staying at Brisas del Mar in early November will we need to be worried about sewage in the water at Madera beach? I think it is Madera beach?!?

Brisas del Mar is a really nice place to stay. I don't know if you should worry or not. It depends on if it has been very rainy.

If it has, I would head over to La Ropa or Las Gatas or go even farther afield to La Barra for the day: it is great excuse for even more adventure!

Madera, right in front of Brisas del Mar was the best of all the beaches we visited for boogie boarding when we went in early August. We had a blast. The waves were large enough to have fun but not too big that they were scary.

One of the real untrue rumors that keeps popping up is this one. In fact Playa Madera CONSISTENTLY has the cleanest waters when tested by the authorities for bacteria of any in Zihuatanejo. The worst is Playa Municipal near the canal outlet, then Playa La Ropa, The Las Gatas & best Madera.

I think this rumor keeps popping up is that it has dark sand due to erosion of the Volcanic Rock at the far end Plus people NOT understanding Currents believing that somehow the canal spill reverses it self which is in actuality the opposite of the truth.

So Relax Madera is a Great Beach!
