I've been checking everyones posts and I'm still not real excited about the lodging. I would like to try our first stay in Ixtapa at our first non AI. The only recommendations I'm seeing are still very large hotels where people are fighting over pool side seating.

My husband and I prefer something small, safe, oceanside, near town but not in the middle. We don't like nightlife. I prefer a hammock with a drink and the sound of surf, but calm enough water to enjoy. We cannot afford much over $150/night and want to be close enough to town that we won't feel we should have rented a car. Of course we want to be spoiled!

Our plans are to come late Jan. 09.

We are also hearing on the news about local kidnappings for ransom in Mexico City - coordinated by the police! Any problems about lay overs in Mexico City?
