I am travelling to Ixtapa for the second leg of my honeymoon. (starting in Acapulo) We are ready to book at Las Brisas, but are not sure if the Beach Club Room upgrade is worth the extra $50 per night? Can anyone help? Also, can ayone recommend a specific floor or room number that they felt had exceptional views, privacy, ease to get to, etc...

What is the Brisas Beach Club on floor 20 all about other than a place to grab a quick breakfast? Is it is bar? Is it a large area? Do you have to have reservations to get in? Can you come and go as you please?

hemtravel1,

I can't tell you what the Brisas Beach Club is about, but the Beach Club rooms are on the upper floors, in the Adults only section.

If your looking for a bit more privacy and quiet, ask for a room at the South end to keep you away from the Sunset Lounge.

Keith

Labrat,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will ask for the southern end at check in.

The Beach Club gives you free continental breakfast and some relatively small snacks during happy hour in a lounge that does not face the beach. I would rather have 2 for 1 drinks in the Lobby Bar with the amazing sunset views.

As for rooms, floor 10 is the ground level and has the worst view and the least privacy. 12 and up is fine. I personally like the 14th floor half way between the pool level and the lobby. I agree that the south end is better. Overall other than the 10th floor, its hard to go wrong here.

We will be here for our 6th time in April.

I just got back from my 4th trip to the hotel. I like any floor from the 14th up. This last trip I stayed on the 16th floor which is non smoking. Great view and a nice room. I did have to give my travel rep $20 to get a room with a king size bed as the front desk can be a little difficult. I would take a copy of your reservation that lists your food and beverage credit as they have tried not to give it to me without proof on 2 of my 4 stays.

I don't think the beach club is worth the $50, but it is convenient for breakfast.

Do any of the rooms have balconies? In some of the traveller's photos it looks like they have balconies; does this only apply to the Beach Club rooms?

All the rooms I have ever seen have the balcony...club as well as non-club rooms.

My husband and I are returning to the Las Brisas for our third trip this November and love it, you have made a great choice for a great honeymoon. We love having room service for breakfast. The food is great and you can eat it in the room or out on the beautiful balcony. We do not feel that the prices for room service have been too bad and it is nice way to start your day with some privacy and a beautiful view. I agree floor 12 and up are great on the south side. Like many people say be ready to walk, but we always enjoy the walks to the pool or beach, the grounds are beautiful. Each room has a large balcony with ocean view (if you are up above floor 10 or 11) and hammock and chairs.

I suggest bringing some citranella candles to enjoy the balcony a little more in the evening. The bugs sometimes come out at night. My husband and I love sitting out side with our candle (it adds some romance) and listening to the waves while we enjoy eachother's company.

Sorry to have rambled so long, but we love the Las Brisas.

PS try to get a hold of the hotel a head of time to let them know you are newlyweds (and bring proof of your marriage) and they may give you a bottle of champagne.

I agree with previous posts - we accidently got put on Club Room floor last visit due to an error at the front desk. We thought we had been upgraded since it was our 4th visit and were happy about the extras however we got a call on the second day to say we had to move. After some negotiating we were allowed to stay - so as far as paying an extra $50 per day - not worth it. As long as your room floor is 12 or above you will have great views and a huge terrace. I'd spend the $50 on room service breakfast on terrace and lobby bar happyhour 2 for 1's. Or better still take a walk down to town to find breakfast or a bus to Zihuatanejo for an early lunch. Taxis are also an inexpensive option.

If you do decide to go Beach Club - it opens around 7am and is a light buffet. Cerials, fruit, pastry, coffee, tea, milk and a hot dish option. You sign in once for breakfast and then its serve yourself. Quite a few tables for 2 or 4 (was never busy when we where there as we are early risers). I think it closes around 11 am.

We never went to the included happy hour as the location of the Club has no view. We always opted for the lobby bar.

I would also suggest you try El Faro for dinner one evening - just up the hill. Reserve a table on the rail - the view is amazing and the food was excellent on our last visit. Don't go too much before sunset as it can get pretty hot. Villa de Salva is also an amazing view + a number of great restaurants in Zihuatanejo just a short cab ride away.
