Hi, I heard there was a storm coming through the Bahamas. Has anyone heard anything about this? Is it turning into a tropical storm/depression/mini-hurricane? We are headed over there on Sunday and wanted to know what to expect.

I am very worried about the weather too. I am going on Tuesday (19th-24th) and the weather looks very grim on Weather.com however the weather outlook looks great on Accuweather.com

3, count 'em 3, storms a-brewing. Leaving on 8/24. This is exactly what I feared:

1. A vigorous, much better organized tropical disturbance with plenty of strong thunderstorms continues to move west-northwestward into the Virgin Islands. Environmental conditions are forecast to become very favorable for additional development and it could become a tropical depression or even Tropical Storm Fay later today or Friday. Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter Aircraft is investigating this area this afternoon. Residents of Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Bahamas, Florida, and the Southeastern U.S. Coast should monitor this system closely over next few days.

2. Farther east, in the central tropical Atlantic, another tropical disturbance continues to move west. Slow development of this system into a tropical depression also remains possible. It is currently located far from land, with the nearest possible land impact being the northern Antilles in about 3 to 4 days.

3. Another tropical disturbance is several hundred miles south-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Development of a tropical depression is possible with this low over the next few days, as it tracks west across the Atlantic.

Sorry, I'm not that familiar with the other islands in the Caribbean. Are any of those near the Bahamas? If so, how close are they? Do you think we'll have any sun during the week of 17-25th?

August is nearing the peak of the hurricane season which peaks on Sept. 10. The local stations here in

NJ have been making a point of this lately.

While there are no hurricanes currently in the Atlantic, there are two areas way out there that could form soon into one.

Be prepared for rain anyway as it is the rainy season down there now with high humidity most days

and sometimes daily brief scattered downpours.

Bring some rain ponchos just in case or you can get soaked.

You can get plenty of info on www.nhc.noaa.gov

It looks like you maybe alright..it states Bahamas should monitor it.

Good luck..

I am leaving on the 28th.

This system is expected to bring locally heavy rains and gusty winds to portions of the Virgin Islands... Puerto Rico...Hispaniola...eastern Cuba...and the southeastern Bahamas interests in these areas...as well as in the remainder of the Bahamas...the remainder of Cuba...and southern Florida...should monitor the progress of this system.
