Our departure out of Nassau leaves at 1100. We are flying American Airlines. We are coming into Nassau that day from one of the outer islands via Pineapple Air. We are scheduled to arrive in Nassau around 0915. This is all occurring on a Thursday in early June. Does anybody have enough experience to know if we are ridiculous in thinking we can make our 1100 flight?

I honestly think it will be doubtful. You only have 1 hour and 45 minutes and that is dependent on Pineapple Air being on time. You will have to wait to collect baggage (maybe 10-15 minutes) change terminals, either walking with your bags (another 10 minutes approx) or get a cab (which may take as long as walking) so you have now cut down your time for check in at the US terminal to 1 hour and 15 minutes.

You will have to check in at the airline's desk, go through security, go through US pre-clearance (immigration and customs) hand over your bags, go upstairs, go through security again and get to the boarding area. Now it is possible, but only if no-one else happens to be in the terminal. All you need is for there to be a large group in any one of the areas and you will not make it.

Andros Ann,

What about the opposite situation- arriving in Nassau (Delta from Atlanta) with about 2 1/2 hours to catch Flamingo Air out of Nassau? Is that too close as well? We were there a few weeks ago but overnighted to not have to worry about the connection. The next trip I am considering is one I don't want to have to do that. Thanks for the advice.

You can save plenty of time by tipping a porter for your bags, they will get you to front of line for check-in and security.

DNaMobile, you should have plenty of time. It doesn't take long as a visitor to get through Bahamaian immigration and customs and it is only a short walk within the same terminal to get to PineappleAir check in. They will take your bags then and you can just walk through to the departure area.

maybe you can somehow just take carry-ons instead of checking luggage. then maybe you can check in with the airline online or at a kiosk? that way you can go straight to security and all that other fun stuff.

Don't count on your porter getting you to the front of any line or thru security. People have been very verbal lately of those who think they can cut and get away with it.

You're bags will be placed at the front of the line, and you will be on the line.. from the back.

Unless you intend on tipping everyone on the line. The porter really hasn't go the authority to cut ahead. And people have gotten smart to it.

On our return flight to the States we depart at 9:00 a.m. How early should we plan to be at the airport to check in, clear security, etc.?

I would give myself at least 21/2 hours to 3 hours. Getting through security on a Monday could be at least 1 hour or more. Better to sit in "the room" waiting than to miss your flight
