Where to stay for honeymoon? |
|
Hi everyone, I am looking for a nice resort, intimate location for a honeymoon from December 29-January 4th of this year. After 2 years of doing long-term subbing, my fiance landed a teaching position in a great school district nearby. So we had to push back our already booked and paid for honeymoon to Tahiti until the summer of 2009. But we'd like to plan a get-away in late December as this is his only time off as a teacher and we don't want to wait 7 or so months to go on our honeymoon next summer. We are not happy about having to push back our honeymoon, and are having a tough time finding a resonably priced resort for Dec. 2008. We looked into Aruba and the airfare was just INSANE, like $1,600 per person just to get there. I found airfare to Nassau for $600 per person, which isn't TOO bad (considering the time of year and how late we're booking). I've been trying to do a little reading up on the forum about where to stay but I've only further confused myself. It seems that its nicer to fly into Freeport or Nassau and stay on the little surrounding islands....but how do I choose which island to stay at? How do we get there from Nassau airport? In helping us choose a place to stay...we'd like something nice, as it is our honeymoon, but we're certainly not expecting to stay at the four seasons. We'd like to get away from kids as much as possible but I know this is hard to do being that kids are out of school this time of year. We definitely would like to stay at a place thats on the beach, with a nice pool to cool off at the end of the day. Basically, we just want to get away, relax and unwind...lay on the beach with a beer and a cold drink and go out for a nice dinner at night. We'd like to do maybe one or two touristy things but not looking for any clubbing/ nightlife. Oh and we have no interest in doing the dolphin thing so thats of no importance to us. A spa day or two would be nice though! Thanks in advance for your help!! |

I know there is no way to predict weather, but typically, how is the weather in late December/early January?

Sandals Royal Bahamian is just what you are looking for. It is an adults only all-inclusive resort and many people do go there for their honeymoon. It is a 10 minute away from the airport in Nassau. There are direct flights from NJ to Nassau, and about a 3 hours flight time. Christmas and New Year time is busy almost everywhere, and the prices are higher. Hope this gives you something to think about.

Hi regkit, Thank you for your help! Are you sure you don't think this will be too big a resort for us? We've done all inclusives before (but never an adults-only one) and we found it nice but very impersonal. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our time and stayed at some really nice places, but we thought they might be too loud with music blasting and coordinated games going on for a honeymoon. What are your thoughts on this? I just want to be sure we pick the right place! Thanks!
